UFC on Fox 2 Expected for January 28th in Chicago

The UFC's winter schedule just got a whole lot busier. Yahoo Sports' Steve Cofield is reporting
that the UFC is already planning their second UFC on Fox event, and it
will emanate from the United Center in Chicago on January 28th:

Multiple sources confirm that Jan. 28 is the target for UFC on Fox 2
in Chicago at the United Center. That'll be followed by the Georges
St-Pierre-Nick Diaz fight on Super Saturday in Las Vegas on Feb. 4.

No fights have been announced for the event yet, but this broadcast
is expected to run longer than last weekend's Fox debut and feature more
than just a single fight. Cofield also broke the news earlier that the
first UFC Fight Night on FX will take place the week prior in Nashville.
So in case you're wondering, here's what MMA fans can look forward to
from the UFC over the next few months:

12/03/11: TUF 14 Finale (Las Vegas)
12/10/11: UFC 140 (Toronto)
12/30/11: UFC 141 (Las Vegas)
01/14/12: UFC 142 (Rio de Janeiro)
01/20/12: UFC Fight Night 26 on FX (Nashville)
01/28/12: UFC on Fox 2 (Chicago)
02/04/12: UFC 143 (Las Vegas)

That close to the Super Bowl weekend card? That is usually a very big card so interesting to see how they split that up.

Just like last time, they could possibly move GSP fight to FOX like they did the Cain vs JDS fight. Just a thought. It would also all but rule out Jones and probably Brock to be on that card.
So it has to be Sonnen vs Spider, right?

Well just looking at the current matchups already made and who would possibly be available. You can probably rule out JDS since Brock-Reem winner probably won't be ready, Jones-Machida winner probably won't be ready, Frankie vs Bendo is already a go for Japan, so either you move Diaz vs GSP, which is already on a major card(Super Bowl). So Spider vs Sonnen just makes the most sense, assuming Spider would be ready in time.

Also throw in there that Aldo-Mendes winner won't be ready after Rio and Cruz is the least popular UFC Champion. I just don't see many other options.

Spider vs Chael makes a ton of sense.

All time great, brash american, rematch. numerous selling points.

GSP and Brock are too important to PPV numbers to ever be on FOX. Anderson-Chael is certainly a possibility though

Well that won't even matter, the scheduling will be enough to prevent them from being possibilities. IF Spider is healthy enough to compete at that date, it has to be the fight selected.

If Rampage isn't put on the Japan card I'd use him here.

No thanks. Not as the FOX headliner, that would be a bummer. If I'm not going to include Spider vs Sonnen and I take the current bookings into consideration, that doesn't leave a whole lot

Well Spider vs Sonnen is off the table. Dana said he has a couple fights already for the card but FOX doesn't know yet and he will tell them on Monday and then the rest of the World. 2 fights already made, 4 fights will air on FOX, not a title fight but "a fight people have wanted to see".
