The kind of gameplan he fought with was the kind of gameplan someone with an inferior ground game would fight with. I can appreciate following a gameplan but Fedor shouldn't be avoiding the ground at all costs against someone who's takedowns are as weak as Monson's at this point.
he was freaked out about losing 4 in a row... i get where he's coming from tho

I can understand that to a point. But the problem I have with it is you hand picked your opponent knowing he can't beat you but you still fought scared.

This. He wasn't fighting someone he had anything to fear about. Monson couldn't submit Fedor, he couldn't take him down, and couldn't outstrike him on his best day. Everyone knew that from the moment this fight got announced.

WHOA! The commentators were talking abut both of them as 'Legends of the Sport'. No wonder Fedor was scared...

I don't get the criticism past the typical empty hate. Monson landed one knee in the fight, had every takedown stuffed, was tossed down several times, had his leg broke from kicks and was dropped several times. No fighting scared there at all, nobady should be a member here that thinks Fedor has something to prove on the ground. He fought Monson where he wanted and got the win. I guess if it isn't his most exciting win and finish in his career he sucks and should retire, that is the simple and easy opinion right?

No hate here, I like Fedor.
His own statements show he's hesitant: "I did not want to take a risk, because Jeff --- he is not a simple fighter. I did not go to finish him because Monson is very dangerous on the ground and could use any mistake I can make. I worked very diligently so that I don't allow a transition on the ground against me. A leg shot (takedown) can be done at any moment. It would have been enough to make even the smallest incorrect movement (and lose).
He doesn't have anything to prove on the ground but he sure as hell was tentative the entire fight.
It's not hard to stuff takedowns when they aren't set up and taken from distance. He flopped several times too. He could have easily pressed the issue and stopped him on his feet, he didn't need to go to the ground.
So he doesn't want to take risks in a fight, he just wants to win. I'm actually OK with that, but people better criticize him the same way they do GSP for fighting that style.

It was Jeff Monson people. You know, 40 year old never learned to throw a decent punch Jeff Monson. I have no problem with someone going out to win instead of taking foolish risks, but even in that gameplan he was visibly tentative. When he hurt Monson several times I see no reason for him not to finish it instead of backing off and letting Monson get up, walk around for a while and not throw anything while Fedor just stands there watching him.

"Thank God I have no injuries ... I'm very grateful to God for losses and for wins, so I feel very good. I was very happy with [the outcome] because everything we planned before with my coaches, I did exactly what they asked me to do. I went for the kill once before against Fabricio Werdum and I paid dearly for that. This time I thought I better change my strategy. I was very happy with my performance the way I strategized the entire fight. Monson was a tough fighter and I was just happy that I won."
His new strategy is going to be that way.

Ludo, it is hard to throw a decent punch when you have T-Rex arms.

Well having prison yard muscles should equate to at least decent power even with piss poor technique(see Lesnar-Herring). Really I was amazed at Monson. I don't even remember him throwing a punch in the 2nd or 3rd rounds.

On January 14th 2009, Jeff Monson was charged with first-degree malicious mischief for vandalizing the Washington State Capitol by spray painting an anarchy symbol with the words 'no poverty' and 'no war' on two pillars. Just before he was arrested, Jeff Monson gave us one of the most bad-ass pictures of an dude named 'The Snowman', ever. A few months after this incident, Jeff Monson's ex-girlfriend sent me a picture of him jumping in a bed, completely naked. Both events are completely unrelated, but it clearly shows that Monson could care less how your perception on cultural norms have been conditioned by a soulless society established on capitalism. That's why I'm not surprised that Jeff Monson allegedly fought two cops in Russia. In fact, if Jeff Monson didn't fight some authority figure in a foreign country then I would be surprised. According to Russia's 'RT,' it appears that Monson got in a little altercation just before his M-1 bout with Fedor. One of the LifeJournal users was shocked when he met Monson in the city’s Metro, which he decided to take in order to make the 40-minute trip to the Moscow outskirts, where he was to hold a master class the day before the fight. He was dressed in hooded top and wearing flip-flops. The temperature on that day was around zero degrees.
On one of the stations he noticed two policemen trying to calm down a drunken man. Their methods seemed too aggressive to the American and he rushed to calm down the policemen. Monson’s escort decided not to wait until the American, known for his penchant for anarchism, beat up the surprised law-enforcers and stopped the scuffle.
There's nothing cool about beating up police officers, but when Jeff Monson does it to defend a drunk person on a Russian subway while wearing flip-flops in freezing temperatures, then it's undeniably baller

The booing of Putin has become a major story in outlets like the New York Times and the BBC. The Associated Press called the reception for Putin "an unprecedented rebuke." However, not everyone agreed that Putin's presence is what led the 22,000 fans in the arena to boo: M-1 Global Director of Operations Evgeni Kogan wrote on Twitter that fans were booing a Russian singer. One report said the fans were booing Monson. Another report claimed -- seriously -- that the fans were booing because there weren't enough toilets in the arena. http://www.mmamania.com/2011/11/22/2580784/russian-fans-boo-vladimir-putin-following-fedor-vs-monson-on-nov-20

Typical. You give them socially funded heat and water and they want more. Always so much more.
