| http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2011/10/31/2528163/ufc-137-results-b-j-penn-releases-statementAfter dropping a decision to Nick Diaz in the main event at UFC 137 and having his eye swollen up to grotesque proportions, B.J. Penn announced his retirement from MMA in an interview with Joe Rogan. Penn has talked about retirement many times before, and the moment seemed appropriate for that sort of announcement. But today he released a statement through his webpage BJPenn.com, and it might have opened the door to a return just a tiny bit: "I want to thank all the fans for their love and support. I have decided to take some time off to enjoy life, train and teach. I will keep you guys posted with what's next."
- BJ Penn"Take some time off" and "retire" are very different things. Could we see Penn back in the cage someday? He is definitely still a top guy in the sport and is only 32 years old, so it's possible. Whatever he decides to do, he's a surefire Hall of Famer. I wonder how long it will take for the UFC to jump on that idea. |

| I think it was in the moment. He had never got fucked up like that. BJ has lost fights but you could never look at his face and have it look like he got straight mugged. It was kind of like when Bigfoot gave Fedor his first true beatdown and Fedor's face was a mess. Fedor pretty much announced his retirement after that fight as well. So i think these two guys went so long without being mangled that when they got mangled it made them feel old and over the hill at that moment.
BJ can move back to 155. He could beat Edgar..hell, he already did once in the first fight.

| BJ Penn wont beat Edgar. Penn has gotten worse since their last fight and Edgar is improving with each fight and gaining more confidence. I'd pick Edgar, Maynard and Melendez all to beat Penn. |

| I think Maynard is a very favorable match up for Penn. | |

| Have him whoop on Kenny again. Or how about Pettis vs Penn? I'd like to see that. | |

| At LW and WW combined there are maybe 7 guys I could see beating BJ today. So he should defintley retire... | |

I don't think anyone wants BJ to retire. I still say Penn vs Pettis would be entertaining and a fight I would favor BJ.

But it is Penn that is talking retirement. This ain't like Flo, who says he still loves to train, still loves to fight. Penn, though he does love fighting when he is successful, he does not like it much when he is getting his ass kicked. And he has never been a guy who has trained real hard. And this will only get more difficult with age. All on Penn imo, though lets be real, it has to be at LW.
