My biggest question...

Why is that article titled 'Michael Bisping re-ups with UFC on eve of "TUF 14," signs eight-fight deal'?

TUF 14 starts in like a month.

That usage of the word eve there is perfectly valid. It can be used to refer to any event in the future and the only real rule, albeit an informal one, governing its use is that you try to keep the time frame ratio as a reasonable one. For example one month, in relation to the subject (be it Bisping who has been around five years or TUF which has been around for six) is fine.

You could refer to Nazi's coming to power in Germany as being on the eve of WWII despite the fact that it occurred a good while beforehand due to how long ago WWII was. You wouldn't want to say dinosaurs went extinct on the eve of WWII however.
