- For what it's worth, I wouldn't want to fight Paul Harris either.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) asked Alexandre Ferreira to face off against Rousimar Palhares not once, but twice. First as part of the UFC on Versus 3 event back on March 3 in Kentucky.
"Cacareco" promptly withdrew from the fight, citing the human tragedy in his native Brazil stemming from mudslides that ravaged a significant portion of his homeland.
Palhares went on to mutilate late replacement, Dave Branch.
The two submission specialists were then paired off for the upcoming UFC 134: "Rio" pay-per-view, which is scheduled for Aug. 27, 2011, at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janiero.
Ferreira again pulled out of the fight. This time because, well, according to Sherdog.com, he simply refused to sign the contract, prompting his own manager, Josef Borges, to call him "lazy:"
"Unfortunately, Cacareco was released by the UFC when he refused to sign the contract to fight against Toquinho. He was called to fight at ‘UFC Rio' in March, and when he found out that the opponent was Palhares, he started to claim difficulties with making weight. Ferreira then said it was better for him not to sign the contract, and he didn't decide what to do until, eventually, the UFC got tired of waiting and released him via letter."
Stepping in for the troubled middleweight is the always-reliable Dan Miller, who will look to keep his limbs intact when he battles "Toquinho" as a late replacement on the UFC 134 fight card.
Ferreira dropped his Octagon debut to veteran Vladmir Matyushenko via first round technical knockout (strikes) in a light heavyweight contest back at UFC 122 in November 2010.
The Jungle Fight veteran was on a seven-fight winning run before getting swept up by the "Janitor."
In addition to being cut from the UFC, "Cacareco" was also bounced from the Chute Boxe Academy earlier this year. http://www.mmamania.com/2011/7/13/2274172/ufc-cuts-alexandre-ferreira-after-cacareco-refuses-to-fight-rousimar | |
