However, the newsmagazine's profile focused less on his successful MMA career and more on his second job: primary caretaker for his brain-damaged fighter.
The segment debuted Sunday, and ESPN since has made the entire video available for online viewing.
Martinez, who's 9-2 as an MMA lightweight, is a former NCAA Division I All-American wrestler at Clarion University in Pennsylvania. In fact, he took up MMA at the urging of another Clarion wrestler: current UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar.
However, Martinez's training is limited because he devotes a major portion of his day to his father. Martinez took on the responsibility as his caretaker during a promise he made to his dying grandmother.
"Everybody says the exact same thing: 'Wow, I don't know if I could do that,'" Martinez stated. "That’s funny to me that people say that because I kind of know that a lot of people could do it. My grandma did it until she died. I'm going to it until: A. My dad gets better; B. My dad passes away; or C. I pass away."
Martinez, who turned pro in 2008, posted an eight-fight win streak before a recent submission loss to former UFC fighter Brian Cobb in May. Four of his nine career wins, including a November victory over two-time UFC fighter Joe Brammer, have come via knockout. [flash][/flash]
