Not in that division. Not right now. A LHW title shot is and should be the hardest to get. There are guys putting in years of work to get their positioning in that division.

Besides, he would beat 2 of the contenders to get it which would eliminate them anyways

Besides, he would beat 2 of the contenders to get it which would eliminate them anyways OK so let's look at the UFC LHW Title picture. 1. Rampage will be fighting Bones. 2. Rashad is still in line, but the undefeated Phil Davis would be about #3 or 4 in line with a win. 3. Shogun vs Forrest winner will put winner(both former UFC LHW Champions) in line. 4. Machida is still a top win away himself and beating him does not give you his spot. Just simply no room for Sonnen in the picture. All beating Machida does is eliminate him from the picture and makes Machida 1-3 in his last 4 fights.

| If Sonnen beats Machida I'd put him 3rd in line. Rua just got demolished by Jones and he wont get a rematch that quick. If Davis somehow beats Rashad then he would be out of the picture and Sonnen would probably get the shot after Rampage. Forrest wont ever get another title shot. |

Unless that Middleweight is Rousimar Palhares. On a serious note why doesn't Sonnen try and avenge the Maia loss ? both men are coming off loses. |

| Munoz would be good, they would still be able to sell the bigot angle and Munoz isn't a known submission threat. | |

| Chael Sonnen: "Machida took one of Couture's teeth. For that I'm going to take three of his." http://www.mmashareforums.com/serious-mma-discussion-f1/-bums-immigrants-phonies-sonnen-blasts-brazilians--t42799.htmlUFC President Dana White has repeatedly stated that current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is the best fighter in the world. If so, one has to wonder where Chael Sonnen fits into that equation. Last August the stellar UFC contender dominated Silva for four-and-half rounds before being caught in a triangle choke in MMA's version of a 'Hail Mary' pass. With the clock winding down, Sonnen, as he had done the previous four rounds, was in Silva's guard punishing him with a barrage of punches. Silva seemed to have no answer for Sonnen's high-level wrestling and was unable to get off of his back seemingly the entire fight. But just as Sonnen seemed poised to ride the jiu-jitsu black-belt to victory, Silva slapped on a triangle choke catching Sonnen off guard. He was forced to tap half-way through the fight's final frame after winning every round according to the three judges scoring at ringside. Some have called the fight and its climatic finish, the best championship contest in UFC history. Sonnen, for his part, believes the fight proved that he, not Silva, is the real champion. "I should be the reigning champion," Sonnen told MMA Fight Corner presented by FiveKnuckles.com. "I punch a guy 300 times, he punches me a couple and they call him the champion? In what parallel universe does that make you the winner? I am the champion. I've been the champion." What Sonnen has also been this past year, is steeped in controversy and missing in action. The former All-American wrestler hasn't fought since last August after issues with both the Nevada State Athletic Commission and the California State Athletic Commission. Then there was the money laundering charge and mortgage fraud rumors levied against Sonnen, who, at the time, was running for political office in Oregon. "Well there was no mortgage fraud," Sonnen explained. "I've heard that term thrown around a bit and I was never involved in anything like that. The charge they hit me with was money laundering. I couldn't tell you to this moment in time what money laundering even means. But look, when you're in the public eye, and I was I was a candidate and I was elected, everything changes. And if you upset somebody that has more power than you do, a lot of times they'll use that power. What they brought me in for, and the fact that they went back an entire decade to find something in a file, was a tough pill to swallow. While typically outspoken and brazen in his demeanor, Sonnen explains why he ultimately decided to plead guilty to money laundering. "I want to be careful with my words," Sonnen said. "I don't know whose listening and I certainly don't want to re-upset them. But at the end of the day when you deal with the government you've got two options, guilty or not guilty. There's no in between. It doesn't come down to if you did it or no. It comes down to that they've got to convince twelve people who weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty to see it in my favor. That's a risk I wasn't willing to take. So again, you've got two options, and of the options that's the one I elected to do and I'll live with that decision." The decision allowed Sonnen to return to his life instead of battling in court, but the reality is that when the former number one middleweight contender returns to the cage over a year will have passed since his last fight. But, don't expect him to ask for a tune-up. "I would ask for an easy fight," Sonnen said tongue-in-cheek. "Or I'd ask for somebody that's just not very good. I always hear these guys saying that they want the hardest fights possible. Well I don't. I'm a fan of easy fights. That's why I called Anderson (Silva) out. Because he sucks." Sonnen, a middleweight, has called out heavyweights before, this time he opted for former Pride champion Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic. "I guess I could go up to heavyweight," Sonnen said. "Whose this other bum that their letting back in with the checkered shorts? Cro Cop? That be a nice night off. You know, there are so many guys out there that say the want the toughest guys and I think, "Really?" What I want is the biggest name, with the most atrocious record, in the hugest venue, for the most money. That's who I would like to fight. And there's plenty of those guys out there." One of those guys, according to Sonnen, was Wanderlei Silva, but that was before his loss to Chris Leben this past Saturday at UFC 132. The two seemed to be on a collision course before Silva's devastating first-round knockout loss to Leben, but following the fight Sonnen is no longer interested in tangling with the Brazilian legend. Though he did shed some light on the trash talk that went back and forth between the two in recent months. "There was a couple of things going on there," Sonnen explained. "Wanderlei tells me that he's going to send me to the dentist. And I'm thinking, 'The receptionist generally sets those appointments, but if you know the phone number to my local dentist, I guess you could.' Then I'm thinking, 'Is he threatening me? I'm an American gangster, you are an immigrant from Brazil. Are you sure you want to go down this road with me? That's a threat?' "Hey Wanderlei, let me give you a threat. I will cut the power to your house and do a home invasion. You will hear me climbing up the stairs in a pair of night vision goggles I bought in the back of 'Solder of Fortune' magazine. The next thing you'll hear is me picking the lock of your bedroom door and taking a photograph of you in bed with the Nogueira brothers working on your jiu-jitsu. I will post said photograph at www.DorksFromBrazil.com with password: not required, user name: not required. Sonnen went on to clarify his thoughts on Silva and the rest of the Brazilian's fighting in the UFC and living in America. "It's funny when Wanderlei says he's got to defend Brazil," Sonnen said. "Wanderlei's not popular in Brazil. Wanderlei, you are from Brazil stupid, you left it. You pay taxes in America. You started a business in America. You send your kids to an American school. You employ Americans. You were made a millionaire by an American company. "If you love Brazil so much, why'd you leave it. It's because he doesn't and the Brazilian people know that. So this big gimmick that all these guys like Anderson (Silva) and all these guys that talk Portuguese and pretend they're from there, what they like to do is act like, 'Oh, we're not Americanized, we haven't even learned English.' But then they run they're businesses in complete English as they're taking your dollar and your mastercard. But on video they act like they haven't taken the time to learn English and it's phony. Those Brazilians are all phony and they suck." Sonnen also takes exception to current UFC featherweight champion and pound-for-pound mainstay Jose Aldo. "It's like this annoying Jose Aldo that they've got number three pound-for-pound," Sonnen said. "Hey guys, excuse me, but there's no such weight class as pound-for-pound. There's no such title. The pound-for-pound does not exist but just in this pretend world. Jose Aldo has made it all the way to number three? Really? The same guy that was anointed UFC champion. The same guy that was given the UFC championship belt before he ever fought in the UFC. The only thing more absurd than that was the night they woke Matt Hughes up and informed him that he was champion." In the year since Sonnen's loss to Silva, many have questioned his ability to defend submissions. Of Sonnen's 11 career losses, eight have come via submission. But the 34 year-old veteran is quick to point out that he's beaten 12 jiu-jitsu black belts as well. "Well look, I work on everything. I'm not ready to say I'm a master. Wrestling's my strong point, but I'm by no means even comfortable with my wrestling. You know, you work on everything but this is silly. I destroyed [Anderson Silva] on the ground. That wasn't even a competition. That wasn't even remotely a close fight. So to act like that, after he threw up a hail-mary pass after I punched him 300 times, is ridiculous. "I've fought 15 black-belts. I beat 12 of them, and finished six of them. So to act like I've got some kind of submission or jiu-jitsu deficiency just isn't true. I know how to get out of triangles, I stopped five of his triangles on that very fight. Now with that said, I'm not trying to say I don't work on it. I work on everything, but there's no deficiency there." Following the win against Sonnen, Silva's camp revealed that he'd taken the fight with broken ribs. A fact which many have used to suggest that Silva was not able to fight at his best. Surprisingly, Sonnen states that he believes that Silva was legitimately hurt. "Anderson's ribs have the exact same problem that his hands and his feet have, they're attached to a cowardly person," Sonnen said. "For Anderson to say that he wasn't 100-percent, I completely believe him. Who cares? But yeah, do I think his ribs were hurt? Sure. Why would I think they weren't? He's the only one who could tell if they were hurt." Following multiple twitter exchanges, many now expect that Lyoto Machida could be next up to face Sonnen. Sonnen states that he wouldn't have any problem going up to light-heavyweight from middleweight for such a fight, especially to avenge the loss of a friend and mentor. "There's a man you may have heard of called Randy Couture, and Machida took one of his teeth. And for that I'm going to take three of his," said Sonnen. "But, I'm not only willing to take on Machida just because of Randy, it's also that easy fight thing. I'm trying to ease my way back into the pool so I'm calling out bums." |
