Light heavyweight prospects Lorenz Larkin and Gian Villante have agreed to fight at Strikeforce Challengers 16, sources close to the fight confirmed with MMA Fighting.

While not officially announced by the organization, the event is expected to take place on June 24 in Kent, Wash.

Larkin (10-0) looked great in his Strikeforce debut in April, defeating Scott Lighty via second-round TKO. "The Monsoon" has won ten straight fights since making his MMA debut in August 2009, and only two of those ten fights have gone the distance.

Villante (7-2) dropped his Strikeforce debut to Chad Griggs in February. A former collegiate football player at Hofstra University, the 25-year-old New Yorker held the Ring of Combat heavyweight title before signing with Strikeforce.

Also scheduled to fight on Strikeforce Challenegrs 16 is lightweight prospect Ryan Couture (2-0). His opponent has yet to be signed.

The event will air on Showtime at 11 p.m. ET/ PT.

I think Villante will win this.

His fight with Griggs was a tough one but i think he's much better all around than that fight showed. He simply got hurt early and didnt recover. Plus, 205 is a better weight for him than HW..that probably goes for Griggs as well.

I don't know too much about Larkin other than his bout with Lighty, but i see him as kind of a 205 Melvin Manhoef, and that not just because he's black and wears goofy cage shorts..but because i think he'll have trouble with people that look to take him down and i think Gian will take him down and execute a game plan exposing Larkin's one dimensional game.

For the first time ever on American soil, Brazil's fighting Villefort brothers will fight on the same card.

With Danillo Villefort already scheduled to meet Antwain Britt at
Strikeforce Challengers 16, Yuri Villefort (6-0 MMA, 0-0 SF) now makes
his Strikeforce debut against Travis Bush (5-2-1 MMA, 0-0 SF) in a
welterweight contest.
Bush vs. Villefort is scheduled for the un-aired portion of the event.

Love it, I got Larkin, but I'm all high on Larkin after one fight like Capt. though....

Larkin was a stud in that fight but Villante will be a tough out especially considering his wrestling will be the principle focus here

A day after MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) reported injuries forced the cancellation of a Danillo Villefort vs. Antwain Britt main-card bout, injured preliminary-card fighter Yuri Villefort (6-0 MMA, 0-0 SF) also has been forced off the June 24 card.

Promotional newcomer Ryan LaFlare (6-0 MMA, 0-0 SF) has stepped in as a
replacement and now meets welterweight Travis Bush (5-2-1 MMA, 0-0 SF).

As impressive a performance from a previously unknown fighter as we have seen in the recent MMA archives. Awesome striking skills.


But the question to be answered will be can Villante take him to the mat. Have to figure it will be Gian's gameplan, especially after the Grave digger fight.
