Huh-huh-huh. They're back.
MTV's original fan base might have outgrown its AC/DC t-shirts but many men will be heading back into the wardrobe to try them on again in light of the TV network announcing that Beavis and Butt-head are to return. Mike Judge's animated duo have been off air for 13 years but Judge will direct the new episodes, which should be screened this summer. Version 1.0, if you will, ran for 200 episodes between 1993-1997 and spawned a movie (Beavis and Butt-head Do America), comic book series and video games. Perhaps we could have seen it coming: B&B did have a cameo in the recent Jackass 3D, which was made by MTV.

Beavis and Butt-head (who are both voiced by Judge), were roommates hailing from the fictional town of Highland. Butt-head, probably by virtue of wearing his AC/DC t-shirt, was always deemed the cooler of the pair, while his counterpart often donned a Metallica T and could usually be relied upon to transform into his alter-ego, "Cornholio," as a result of too much sugar.
Their other signature leitmotif was to juxtapose the music videos of the day with their pithy and surreal commentary, which was improvised by Judge. Happily, those segments shall also return (as well as their surely mocking the likes of current stablemates Jersey Shore) but with the music videos updated. And rest assured, our heroes won't have aged since 1997, which means they're still in high school. In a strange sense, this heralds a return of sorts of music promos to the network, which long ago lost the M in MTV.

And if Wednesday's announcement is anything to go by, Beavis and Butt-head may win over a brand new audience. Not only was the news delivered by the cast of Skins at Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom -- and bear in mind that some of them won't even remember the show -- but an official seal of approval was later delivered by Justin Bieber (he wasn't even alive when the show originally started), who was also there. He tweeted, "Played hoops and just went to the MTV Upfronts...BEAVIS and BUTTHEAD are coming back!!!"
Indeed they are Bieber and may they take no mercy on you or anyone else who gets in their way. (via EW)
