Fernando Vargas : Nick Diaz You're not even in the UFC

"Nick Diaz box me? He's not even in the UFC."

ouch ..... says Fernando Vargas (who hasnt won a fight since 2005)

he also said the thought of splitting a boxing purse with Diaz is laughable. Didnt rule the fight out though.


This week, Nick Diaz mentioned he'd like a professional boxing match and named Vargas as a potential opponent.

"Right now, I'm thinking about [Buchanan]," Vargas said. "But listen, there's another guy that's been opening his mouth that's in MMA -- and that's Nick Diaz.

"He's been calling me out saying he wants to fight me. I'm like, 'Who is this guy? You're not an elite mixed martial artist. You're not even in the UFC.' That's definitely a fight that interests me. He got my attention."

Wish he would just stay retired

ya its common knowledge at the end of his career he was walking around in the 230 + area

i also doubt Diaz (with 1 pro boxing fight) could get sanctioned for anything mroe than 8 rounds vs Vargas or Mayorga, 2 former champs

Diaz has a better chance of beating Vargas in a boxing match, than Vargas has beating him in an MMA fight.

He is just trying to make people want to see him fight a boxer to make some extra cash!!!!

Not a big Vargas fan, but what he said smacks of complete disrespect.

So not being in the UFC must mean his boxing is not that good?

I don't like MMA fighters calling out boxers in boxing matches but Vargas logic baffles me.

Vargas' logic is he doesnt give a shit, hes a Olympic boxer whos been boxing since he was 5, mma = UFC in his mind

Good point bird, but in most peoples mind boxing equals whatever HBO or Showtime tells them it is and most folks don't even realize what the Golden Glove's are. So in the mind of the public at large, the UFC is MMA. Even some of the most ardent of fans equate SF to the UFC as one would the CFL to the NFL.
