Texan deaclared innocent after 30 years

Yep were know in the 30's for number of exoneree's in Texas (mainly Dallas.) Cornelius Dupree Jr. was found innocent after spending 30 years in prison, they said that he likely would have been paroled (he went up 2 times) if he had admitted he was a sex offender (he wouldn't). Even though Texas has passed a bill paying these victims (the Texas Exoneree's) several hundred thousand dollars for each year spent in prison, you can't put a price tag on 30 years.

Gotta feel sorry for the guy, atleast theres a D.A. in Dallas that actually cares about this stuff.

Thats fucked up. I can see why he didn't take the money seeing as he's spent more than half his life in prison for a crime he didn't commit. I know it sounds cliche but there sounds to be something to this "convict at all costs" thing the DA was talking about. He's better off with the 2.4 lump sum that is tax free though. I know if it were Me I wouldn't be thinking about the money at this point, mostly about where to start as a 51 year old who's spent the last 30 in jail.

Wow props to Dupree for not caving and admitting to something he did not do.

And while the 2.4 mil does not make up for 30 yrs of unjust life behind bars, it sure as hell is better then the zero dollar alternative. Dude stayed in good shape too, which will also allow him to enjoy the next phase of his life.


Of coarse the other awful reality of this story is the cops were so intent on busting the first pair of black dudes they saw walking down the street, that they let the real perps go on with life.

Though maybe this too is an unfair judgement.

thats the problem wtih the Toby Shook (and other former Dallas D.A.'s) offices, they jsut convicted guys they didnt care if they were innocent, even more unfathomable is that Shook refused all of these guys to have their DNA tested. These men could have been free'd 5 years ago the former D.A. simply didn't care.
