Diario Popular brings word that Chute Boxe prospect Maiquel Falcão, who recently debuted at UFC 123 with a victory over Gerald Harris, was arrested today in Pelotas, South of Brazil by local police.Maiquel was caught after giving an interview to Grupo Brasil de Comunicação. The Brazilian native was detained after a warrant for his arrest was issued in relation to a 2002 assault charge.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed with Falcao's management that the fighter is currently incarcerated, though the Chute Boxe product hopes to be released as soon as today.

According to Falcao's camp, the Brazilian was ordered in 2002 to serve a 24-month house-arrest sentence. After eight months, Falcao moved to a new home, though his lawyer advised him that the Brazilian authorities would have no issue with him completing the sentence in a new location.

Today, Falcao returned to his hometown, as he reportedly has several times since 2002, but authorities elected to take him into custody.

This guy is already easily scrutinized. Did you guys ever see his fight where he tko'd his opponent and wouldn't stop punching the guy for 5 or 6 seconds even while the ref was bear hugging and trying to wrestle him off the guy?

No but if that really happened along with holding that choke on Harris while the ref was pulling his arm, this guy is an asshole.

...but seriously, i don't know how Falco came out of the Harris fight getting all the criticism. Harris was the one who looked like he should be working at 7/11. It's the power of Joe Rogan harping on something until everybody agrees.

Dude looked scary mean in that fight, when Harris told him to come on in the thrid round, he looked like he called him the worst name you can think of and he wanted to kill him for the little time that was left, don't think he will be long for this venue, he has got a few issues.

The problem for Falcao is he comes from Chute Boxe. I have NEVER seen anyone dare call themselves a Chute Boxe fighter and be so passive in any round as I saw from Falcao in the third. He knew he had the scorecards on his side and he coasted. That isn't the Chute Boxe way. People expected more from him because of that and because of the hype he got off his fights that were on youtube. He does have some wicked explosive striking though.

Brazilian authorities today released UFC middleweight Maiquel Faclao (26-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) after four days of detainment.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today spoke with a representative from Falcao's management team, who confirmed his client's release.

Falcao had been detained in Pelotas, Brazil, in relation to a 2002 assault charge, though he was not placed in jail. The recent UFC signee today was issued an 18-month probation and will be allowed to travel freely from Brazil in order to fulfill his fighting assignments.
