| A lot of people were saying Maia would be the next big thing before he lost. I guess Marquardt beat him convincingly enough that the Maia hype train has derailed. | |

| I don't think that Belfort has anything that Hendo or Nate can't handle. I know we have seen both fall to Silva already, but I'd pay to see either get another crack!!! | |

Really? Is Maia a great mma fighter or a great one dimensional bjj player? I always failed to see why a straight kickboxer, boxer, or straight wrestler is said to be green and inexperienced, but a straight bjj player is considered a great fighter already, without having to show that he is multi-dimensional. Then, he gets ko'd and its not because he is painfully one dimensional, but because the other guy is great.

| Becuase Nate is great, it's going to take great all around fighters like that to beat Maia, whose one strength is so strong and useful in MMA. Maia will sub the next guy he fights, I gaurentee it. And lets not compare him to Leites.
Is Jake Shields gonna suck all of a sudden if he gets beat by someone like Thiago?

| I agree to a certain point LA. If you are elite at any given aspect, you can ride that to a very respectful record and maybe even a top-10 standing. BUT, once you start fighting the truly elite and well rounded, you will in all likely get exposed for being one dimensional. Aoki, Shields, Maia, Leites, etc. can all be beaten by a handful of guys in their respective weight classes. Once those match-ups are made, the weaknesses are exposed. Fact is most fight lesser talents and guys that fit their style while building that record and standing. You know as well as I do that Shields isn't beating half of the top-10 guys at WW... I'm not saying that they or he sucks, but they certainly aren't looked at in the same way as we see the guys we know can finish a fight against other top dogs in multiple ways. They deserve their props, as long as those props are in the proper perspective.
Pardon the scattered thoughts... Damn phone won't stop ringing...

| He beat Nate who had 2 points deducted from him in the fight though. He wouldn't have won without those. Hell, it was still a split decision even with those points taken off | |

| You rarely see high level BJJ blackbelts sub eachother in MMA, and the more rounded fighter typically wins the battle of grapplers. | |

| Maia hasn't really sub'd anyone of note in MMA, anyone with a major blackbelt. Ed Herman isn't Thales. Thales has as many subs on his record. Thales is also a better striker.
Maia is the man ya, but is he really on "another level"? How can you tell LA? You trained with either, trained in BJJ and see the differences in their game? I can't make statements like that because I don't see enough information with what I know about jitz and what I see from them.

| Thales is barely better in the other aspects, Nate will make u look bad, and I'm going off the fact that pretty much every fighter says Maia has the highest level jj in MMA. | |
