...and with Mayweather's value taking a significant hit for numerous reasons, what becomes the next million buy fight for US boxing? No turning this into another discussion about how modern fighters suck, fight promoters suck, old fighters were better, boxing is dying, boxing is not dying, elves who stick bananas in their asses or any of the usual conversations this turns into.

One loss sure, he can still sell cards, but I would find it hard to believe as many as he has been, and if his prime is over his PPV prime is over. Manny isn't except from the laws of PPV physics.

That's a good question. i think the answer lies not in one particular fighter, but in better fight cards with multiple match ups. Promoters need to mix it up more. Instead of a card featuring mostly fighters in a certain weight class, maybe a better mix.

Maybe if they stack more cards like in the UFC. Maybe like on the Wlad-Peter card they have Mosley fighting as the co-main event and Vic Darchinian fight on the card as well.

But the laws of PPV physuics don't say single losses mean much. Tyson and Oscar were both HUGE draws even after multiple losses.

They had been around awhile, like Chuck Liddell who is similarly exempt to a degree with 115 bringing in 480k, where as Pacman hasn't been around as long and has been a bankable novelty, but hasn't become beloved like Oscar and Liddell, or mystified like Tyson.

And you say that based on what exactly?

Pacquiao was the sports cover story in USA today last week. The article was more or less stating that he's the big draw in boxing and how he doesn't need Mayweather to make money. He has that it factor.

Ok - looking at boxing, MMA, and pro-wrestling, pick out the foreign, non English speaking fighters that also had this "it factor" and maintained it after they suffered a loss. No one cared about him in the lower divisions when he got those losses. Since he's moved up and started dominating is when people started caring. If he losses something like 3 or 4 out of his next 5 or 6 fights he wont get anywhere near a million buys.
