Rogers (10-2) is currently under contract with Strikeforce and received permission to accept this fight, MMAFighting.com confirmed Tuesday with Strikeforce.

Rogers' fight on Oct. 23 will mark the first time in nearly four years that he has competed outside a major MMA promotion. Rogers opened his career with 10 straight wins, capped off by a 22-second knockout over Andrei Arlovski. However, the upset over the former UFC champion sent Rogers on the fast track and the then-part-time would next find himself overmatched in championship bouts against Fedor and Overeem.

With two months until the fight, the 40-year-old Villareal finds himself in an usual position here of actually having preparation time for a fight. Often utilized as a late-minute replacement, Villareal has a history of fighting recognizable name opponents, but has lost each time.

The Ultimate Fighter 11 cast member Jamie Yager is also slated to compete on the card in a middleweight tilt against undefeated Jeremiah Hamilton.

I do get somewhat sick of Strikeforce micro managing their HW's and playing footsy to keep guys like Rosario, Johnson and Rogers from beating eachother. Kind of like that two year period where Cain, Carwin and Dos Santos were kept from eachother and Lesnar and how Bones and Bader have been kept apart. Very frustrating.

In the HW realm I understand why they do it. There are not as many of them to go around as say Welters or Light Heavys, but at the end of the day I want to see to guys who are closest to their primes go at it as opposed to one guy on the backside of his career fighting a guy at his summit.

Rogers probably wanted to step down to find his confidence again anyway. Nothing wrong with that actually.

Warpath is always good for a laugh. I've seen him fight several times at reservations, the best is when he puts on the warpaint. War Path!!. Rodgers is gonna mutabilterate him.

Thats fine. Atleast Strikeforce is not going to waste our time on their programs feeding Rogers. He eats and then he comes back to fight somebody good.

Rogers really needs a fight like this...he has to have zero confidence after Overeem made him look like a pansy.
