2009 World MMA Awards broadcast debuts tonight on Versus

As a reminder, the recently taped 2009 World MMA Awards ceremony debuts tonight on Versus at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The one-hour broadcast features the unveiling of winners in 19 different categories – ranging from Event of the Year to Knockout of the Year to Promotion of the Year – from a star-studded Dec. 30 affair at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

The broadcast features a condensed version of the event, and some categories (including those won by MMAjunkie.com) will be mentioned only briefly due to time constraints.

Replays are set for this Thursday, Jan. 7 (midnight) and Saturday, Jan. 9 (2:30 p.m.).

In addition to showing highlights and announcing winners from the different categories, which were voted upon by fans and organized by Fighters Only, the broadcast also features a number of clips and skits. (Did you see the mock ads for Randy Couture the divorce attorney and motivational speaker Junie Browning?)

Top winners from the 2009 World MMA Awards included Georges St-Pierre (Fighter of the Year), Diego Sanchez (Fight of the Year), the UFC (Promotion of the Year) and Charles "Mask" Lewis (Special Lifetime Achievement). Additionally, MMAjunkie.com won the trophy for Best Media Source, and lead staff reporter John Morgan won the award as Best MMA Journalist. (Check out the full list of winners.)

The World MMA Awards were created in 2008 to recognize and celebrate the achievements of people who make MMA such a great sport.

It was actually pretty cool. Break out fighter was Brock and KO of the year was Hendo over Bisping. I actually have to watch the replay cause the Central Michigan game vs Troy was great so i had to watch that instead.

I saw it when it aired live. Its a Zuffa love fest with some of the worst production you will ever see. Maybe they improved it for the TV version.

Yeah most awards were pretty obvious who was gonna win also but I guess it was ok. They did piss me off cause the camera kept on going on Dana which was annoying.

Yeah at was funny as hell.

Another funny 1 was when he said has ur wife moved up 3 weight classes? He was great as the lawyer.

I caught some of it. From what I saw it should have been called the UFC & WEC awards. I cant believe Jose Aldo was not even mentioned for fighter of the year.
