| i think they were right to gamble, kaepernick still has a lot more upside and smith never has and never will reach the level kaepernick played at last year at any time in his career.
the niners would probably be 9-0 if they had the soft schedule the chiefs have.

| I think Colin played better last year because he was hungrier and was fighting for his spot. This year he knows the spot is his and is more comfortable. |

| Alex Smith
Said it all along. There is potential to be a better quarterback, and then there is actually being a better quarterback...Colin is not.
when you have Kaepernick losing 10 yards everytime he gets sacked, wasting timeouts because he can't get a play off(calling timeouts when he doesnt have any because he still can't get plays off), making errant passes into coverage while throwing for less yards and touchdowns than Alex Smith did...it makes you long for the expendable "game manager". Our problem right now is Kaepernick can't manage the game. Funny how things turn out.
So far, this had turned out as a feared. The league adjusted to Kaepernick..he isnt the first fast, athletic QB to light the league on fire for a half season and then come back to earth to stay.
Smith was the right QB for the Niners. He ate the clock while almost always putting them in position for atleast 3 points, he helped keep the defense fresh, and most importantly...he rarely fucked up. Kaep does not eat the clock, the defense is always on the field and they suffer for it, and he fucks up.
SF sports media has pretty much written off as no Crabtree, no Manningham, and Davis has been missing some games...which is fair but i remember Alex Smith did just fine with pretty much a not yet broken out Crabtree and Vernon Davis in 2011. You can tell Boldin is getting tired of Kaep's shit. The guy has a top 5 offensive line, one of the league's best recievers(Boldin), tight end(Davis), and running back(Gore) yet he's so ineffective? I'm not so sure it's going to magically turn into last years Kaepernick with Crabtree's return.

| Alex Smith was fucked early by the 49ers. He came in while they were still getting their shit together and he had a new offense and new offensive coordinator every year. They never fully utilized his athletic ability. People talk about how athletic guys like Rodgers and Luck are but Smith is a better athlete then both. If Alex Smith would have came into the situation Rodgers or Luck did he would have had a much more successful career...or even if he would have came into the situation CK came into in 49ers. Alex just came into a mess and by the time it was sorted out people were ready to give up on him. | |
