UFC 165: Jones vs Gustafsson Sept. 21

I'll have to rewatch round 4 and see if Jones' last 30 seconds should've won him the round. The only thing that was obvious was that it WAS going to on all the judges' cards

as much as the 4th was a Gus round until the end...Gus might have been saved by the bell which is why i switched my original score of the 4th to Jones...but there is a argument there. I don't think Jon won any of the first 3 rounds. Im having a hard time being mad..im just glad his takedowns were stuffed and he looked like he fell face first off a motorcycle and that most people know he really didnt win that shit.

Also, i think it very much confirms how much of an advantage his size really was all this time.

Fight was going to be stopped by the doctors going into the fifth round due to Jon bad cut, but both Jones and Jon Mcarthy pleaded with the refs not too.

nah, but i love just about everything about this fight except the judges decision. Jon in the hospital, Gus doing interviews. Jon saved by the ref. Dana admits Jones size and reach has truly been the difference.

Seems like he completely lost all of his wrestling since leaving.

I had Jones winning rounds 2,4,5.
He was losing the 4th until the end and by almost stopping Gus it won him that round. Watching the fight live before he hurt Gus I said Jones would need a stoppage but it turned around quickly. Jones damage won him that round even though gus controlled most of it.

Heard it was something with his foot, the same one he had the toe issue with.

Team Jones just told me Jon injured his foot badly early on. Left foot. Same as injured toe.

No interest in that, I like the other 2 though.

Great main event, foty candidate level.  Close decision, I had it gus.  Barao looked awesome.  Card was pretty average I thought overall.

I'm starting to think maybe Barao>Aldo and maybe best fighter on the planet.

Just watched an interview with Stitch and he said that never happened. The dr. looked at the cut and Duran said he had it under control and that was the end of it.

Another note:
If McCarthy pleaded not to have the fight stopped why didn't we hear that during the fight? He was mic'd up and we would have clearly heard it.

From McCarthy: When Ontario Athletic Commission (OAC) senior physician, Dr. Jason Su came into the Octagon to check on Jones, McCarthy said the doctor expressed concern about the cut. McCarthy said he told Dr. Su, "I will look at it. If it gets worse, I promise you I will bring him to you."

McCarthy did not need to consult with Su during the fifth and final round of the bout, and Jones went on to earn a unanimous decision victory.




When contacted via email by Bloody Elbow about White's statement, that Dr. Su may have been influenced by alleged begging and pleading from either Jones or McCarthy, Richard Hustwick, OAC Senior Advisor of Operational Policy and Stakeholder Relations replied:

The only factor that an OAC physician considers in deciding whether a fighter can continue fighting is the physical condition of the fighter. The OAC's senior physician, Dr. Jason Su, who is a sports medicine specialist, examined Jon Jones between rounds and determined that Mr. Jones was healthy to continue fighting.
