Undefeated Olympic medalist Sara McMann signs with Strikeforce

Undefeated bantamweight female prospect Sara McMann (6-0 MMA, 0-0 SF) is the latest addition to the Strikeforce roster.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today learned from multiple sources close to the former Olympic wrestling silver medalist that McMann has signed a multi-fight deal with the promotion.

McMann could debut as soon as the promotion's recently-announced Nov. 3 event, but an opponent has yet to be determined. Exact terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 31-year-old McMann fought most recently at July's Invicta Fighting Championships 2, where she earned a hard-fought decision win over submission ace Shayna Baszler. It was McMann's sixth consecutive win as a professional, all of which came in a 14-month span.

McMann is one of the most decorated female freestyle wrestlers in American history. She earned a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens while competing at 63 kilograms (approximately 139 pounds).

The Maryland native is also a three-time medalist at the FILA Wrestling World Championships and a two-time gold medalist at the Pan American Games.

McMann is currently ranked No. 5 at 135 pounds in the Unified Women's Mixed Martial Arts Rankings. Strikeforce's current champion in that division, of course, is fast-rising superstar and fellow Olympic medalist Ronda Rousey. The same rankings also include McMann as the No. 10 pound-for-pound female fighter in the sport while Rousey hold the top spot.

She'll get stomped if they put her in with Rousey anytime soon. Her striking is ass from what I've seen. She's literally just a wrestler at this point and time. A modern day mark coleman type fighter.

Yeah, I've only seen three of her fights and she looks very green in the cage sometimes.

But I think it is safe to assume she fights Rousey next.

Why does she need striking for rousey? Rousey gets you in a clinch for a rd/throw and goes for a submission.

If they give her more time then it could be a very interesting fight with Rousey down the line. Hope they don't throw her in too early.

Good signing. More olympic athletes the better for women's MMA.

First fight should obviously NOT be for the title. But see how she does and go from there.

I think she just won the Invicta title, so I wouldn't be too shocked if they throw her in there soon. But I hope they don't.

No, but she's inexperienced. Inexperienced grapplers don't like being hit in the face. Also, womens wrestling is not nearly as competitive as womens judo. On an international level Judo is about as real as it gets for womens grappling arts. Also, she may as well look to strike because her only shot is to score a quick KO because she doesn't have the chops to stop Ronda from tripping her down and ripping an arm off.

I disagree. She may not be ready now, but with her background it's possible she could learn to control Rousey on the ground. Considering her background it's far more likely she would get a dec then a KO.

If Tate couldn't do it(who is a much better all around MMA grappler than McMann) I highly doubt McMann can do it without at least a year and a half to hone some of her game.

Maybe she can't. But I still think it's more likely that she does that then land some power shot to the jaw that puts Ronda out. If she is going to win, it will be by controlling Ronda on the ground without being sub'd.

eh Tate is MMA good, but as we've seen with Ronda, when u throw an olympian in the mix, the difference in the level of athleticism is dramatic.

Don't think we should use Tate as a measuring stick.

Def think McMann's best chance would be to use her wrestling.
