Dana White Confirms Next 205 Title Contender fighiting at UFC on FOX 4

In a report put out by Fox Sports, UFC president Dana White confirms
that the UFC on FOX 4 event set for August 4 will have serious
implications for the future of the UFC’s light-heavyweight division.
The UFC boss took to email to address the FOX reporter:

“These fighters have a huge opportunity to show the world why
they deserve to fight for the UFC title next. Winning isn’t enough at
UFC on Fox. This division is so competitive these fighters have to look
great to separate themselves from the pack. I’m expecting all of these
guys to go all-out to prove why they should be next in line for a title
shot.”

UFC on FOX 4 is set to take place on August 4 from the Staples Center
in Los Angeles, California. In the main event Mauricio “Shogun” Rua
will square off with Brandon Vera and in the evenings co-feature Lyoto
Machida will fight Ryan Bader.

Like I said Gus, then you have Cormier if he drops down, Anderson if he moves up, Davis is 2-3 wins away, Teixeira is a prospect that could turn into a challenger soon.

Mousasi and Gus are two guys that come to mind as future challengers. Also Glover could be in the mix soon. Maybe lil Nog can put something together. Maybe Jimmo works his way up the ranks. But really Mousasi and Gus are 2 that should get their shots at Jones(if he beats Hendo).

How is Mousasi a long shot? He has been ranked for years. He had a poor performance vs Jardine but he still won that fight(fuck that decision). I'd be interested in a Machida rematch, IMO he's still the toughest challenge for Bones at 205 despite the first fight.

I'd be more interested in a Shogun rematch then a Machida rematch. I don't think the best Shogun showed up for that fight. Can't say the same for Machida.

eh. When u need guys from other divisions that backs up the point of Bones having cleaned it out.

Tex? Maybe. Gus? Maybe Gegard? not even in the UFC(last I heard anyway).

But after Hendo, the once lauded lhw division will be turning to the outside for interesting opponents.

Once Bones has fought Gus and Davis he'll have cleaned it out.

I think he has a chance to win all of those fights. He could also lose all of those fights. Mousasi is younger then all of them except Jones but he has alot more experience then Jones. He is a well rounded fighter and he could beat any of them. I would be interested in seeing all of those matchups.

The winner of Saturday's UFC on FOX 4 headliner will get a title shot.

Despite both fighters having already suffered losses to reigning light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones – and despite the competitors owning a combined 3-5 record (with one no-contest) in their past nine fights – the winner of Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (20-6 MMA, 4-4 UFC) vs. Brandon Vera (12-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC) will get a shot at the belt.

UFC president Dana White today confirmed the plans.

"Yes," White said flatly when asked about the title stakes.

UFC on FOX 4 takes place Saturday at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The main card, including the Vera vs. Shogun five-round headliner, airs on FOX following prelims on FUEL TV.

"'Shogun' Rua just came off a 'Fight of the Year' last year," said White, referring to Rua's close decision loss to Dan Henderson in November at UFC 139. "He's probably one of the best fighters of the last decade. Think about it. This guy knocked out 'Rampage' (Jackson), knocked out Chuck Liddell, knocked out Mark Coleman, knocked out Lyoto Machida, knocked out Forrest Griffin, knocked out Alistair Overeem twice, submitted Kevin Randleman. A win vs. [Vera] puts him right back in position, and then he's probably the No. 2 guy in the world."

As for Vera, who hasn't won back-to-back fights in three years, he understands it's icing on the cake. He was just happy to have a main-event fight on network television after UFC on FOX 4 lost an originally planned headliner of Hector Lombard vs. Brian Stann.

"Like I said before, this is already a blessing in disguise, and by Dana throwing [the title shot] out there, it's like winning the lottery twice," he said.

Despite some recent setbacks, Vera is coming off a decision victory over Eliot Marshall. Rua, meanwhile, fights for the first time since the loss to Henderson, who fights Jones in next month's UFC 151 headliner.

Rua, a former champ, lost his belt to Jones via TKO in early 2011. Vera also suffered a TKO loss to Jones, which came in 2010.

How the fuck is Dana ok with giving Vera and Shogun a chance at the title, yet wont push basketball head spider to step up and fight Jones?

We as fans should be a little frustrated with this one.

Same goes if Hendo wins the title. Neither Shogun or Vera are immediately deserving.
