Dana White will have surgery Thursday in Los Angeles to treat a recently diagnosed case of Ménière's disease. The UFC president missed the promotion's Tuesday fight card at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. – the first event he's missed since he and partners Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta purchased the company in January 2001.

White revealed the news via Twitter prior to the fights.

“First fight I will miss in 11 years and it is killing me,” White said. “I have to have surgery in L.A. tomorrow or trust me I would be [there].”

In April, he flew from Brazil on a Friday to attend a card in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday.

White told Yahoo! Sports that he has been suffering from symptoms for several months. At the post-fight news conference following UFC 141 in December, White ended the proceedings early. He said Tuesday the reason is that he was dizzy and felt he was going to pass out.

"I was on vacation in Fiji and it really started," White said. "Then, you remember that press conference [after UFC 141] where I was holding the podium? I was feeling terrible and things were spinning around."

White said he was meeting with the Fertittas at the Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas on Tuesday evening when he was afflicted badly. He was removed from the casino in a wheelchair, he said.

According to Yahoo! Health, Ménière's disease is a condition when fluid in the inner ear gets too high, and it can affect balance and hearing. Symptoms of Ménière's include tinnitus, hearing loss, vertigo, vomiting or nausea and a feeling of increased pressure in the ear. Surgery brings with it a risk of hearing loss, according to WebMD.


White said he is hopeful he'll be cured, but said "it totally sucks" missing the fight. He said he's been told he'll be unable to walk for about a week after the surgery.

"You know me and you know how I love to be at the fights, but I can't," White said. "If it were possible for me in any way, I'd be there. But I can't. I'm having fun [Tweeting] with the fans and watching on TV."

that sucks I had tinnitus for around 3 to 4 months in my right ear last year, it sucks. didn't get the surgery though cause didn't want to risk losing hearing.

Surgery news about a guy people care about...

Former UFC heavyweight champion and King of Pancrase Bas Rutten on Monday was awake in the hospital and recovering from neck surgery.

Rutten underwent surgery in hopes of making space for some impinged nerves in his neck.

The condition had been causing weakness in Rutten’s right arm, so much so that he said he could not do one five-pound curl. In contrast, he said he could curl 50 pounds for at least 30 repetitions with the other arm.

Rutten said prior to the operation that the procedure would “fuse three discs together in my neck, which will make space for my nerves that are caught right now, and then hopefully I will get my strength back!”

The procedure took place early Monday morning and seems to have went well.

Rutten was awake and commenting on Facebook and Twitter Monday afternoon, writing, “OK, Im awake, will let you all know more when I know more. Thanks for all the ‘Best wishes’, much appreciated!”

Rutten is currently a co-host of Inside MMA on AXS TV, and also recently starred alongside Kevin James film “Here Goes the Boom.”

Rodriguez recommended White visit Dr. Peter Wehling in Dusseldorf, Germany, in order to take part in a revolutionary treatment known as Orthokine. Rodriguez went through the same procedure in 2011 to address an ailing knee and shoulder.
Invented by Dr. Wehling, the procedure involves removing some of the patient's own blood, incubating the blood at a slightly raised temperature and than running the blood through a centrifuge to isolate naturally occurring anti-inflammatory proteins, which are then injected back into the patient.

White underwent the treatment this past weekend, and he said the procedure essentially cured his condition, a feat that was not accomplished through a radical January surgery.

"I haven't felt this good in two years," White said. "I'm working out like a maniac. I've never felt better in my life."

The UFC boss said he will undergo another treatment session in approximately three months, but he's excited for the results thus far. White joins a long list of high-profile patients who have take part in the treatment, which as yet to be approved for use in the U.S., including Rodiguez, Kobe Bryant, George Clooney and even Pope John Paul II.

The UFC boss seemed in incredibly good spirits as he recounted the tale and is hopeful his days of dealing with Meniere's are over.

"I told them, 'I don't give a s--t if I start growing a horn out of my head. If you can stop this, I'll file the horn down,'" White said. "But according to them, there are absolutely no side effects whatsoever."
