BJ Penn's Daily Blogs: Why are UFC Interviewer's telling me what to say about Nick Diaz?

I love when fighters are good at selling fights like Sonnen or Rampage for example, but I'm not down with made up beef. If a fighter doesn't have beef with his opponent the people who make these shows imo should be good enough at their jobs to hype the fight without beef.

Penn is in rebel mode today.

it's canned because it's not what Penn wants to say. Maybe Penn has a wait and see what happens approach to fighting. Maybe the UFC interviewers fed him the "to the death" line and he's forever skeptical of them.

Also, Penn and Diaz have history. A positive one. They have helped train each other for multiple fights...so considering it's Penn and Diaz..two unique personalities..they want this to be a trash talk battle but it's not going to happen like that.

I wish UFC would ditch the fake heat shit of the TuF coaches automatically hate eachother and corny countdown shows.

Some fighters need the fake heat and embrace it as motivation though. I don't mind real drama sometimes. Nor do I mind a bit of juiced up drama if the end result is an intense fight. A small dose of kayfabe here n there aint a bad thing.

Is BJ unaware that the UFC sells their PPVs using a pro wrestling model? A little bit of a selling point being thrown out there isn't a bad thing.

Sorry, can't support canned beef unless it's in pro wrestling obviously..the more MMA makes exceptions to going down that road, the further down the road they will get. Remember, Pro wrestling started off as real in the late 1800's until there was canned beef, people complained about boring fights, and the promoters figured out a way that they will come out on top every time. Not saying this is what is happening, i'm just saying...

All you do is bring skepticism to any situation where there might be an actual beef...like anybody who still buys Rampage hates Rashad and vice versa after seeing the obviously contrived exchanges on the silly reality show is dead to me.

Yeah there is a difference between hyping a fight and fabricating beef.

I don't know what to say though other than none of that is for me, Countdown/fabricated beef is for people who don't watch MMA and are chronically fooled then let down by the ads then fight.

You don't need to make BJ say he is going to beat Diaz to hype the fight.

You hype the fights by showing BJ knocking out Sean Sherk, opening a vagina on Diego Sanchez's head, boxing GSP's face off in their first fight.

You show Diaz on his knockout spree.

We all understand commenting on the fight and showing up to press conference. The promotion and hype events...

but i can't believe anybody is supporting the UFC TELLING guys what to say about other guys in the build up to the fight.

Also, Brock Lesnar vs. the door, Rampage vs. the door?

Lately I've been noticing how scripted parts of countdown has become.

Any true MMA fan knows how good this fight is going to be and is pumped for it with or without beef.

Combat sports always need a little juice and faux animosity often helps fighters get pumped anyway. BJ is just hard on for beefing w Dana and Georges.

The hype video guy wanted BJ to not be boring. Holy shit!? Lets all freak out.

Yeah, not big on pre-manufactured rivalries...this isn't Wrestling for Christ sake.
