Melvin Guillard wants to fight at UFC 136, calls for a bout against Joe Lauzon

Guillard would probablly beat Lauzon but Joe could pose some problems for him.

People will probably think Melvin is looking for an "easy" fight but actually he is making a smart call here and Lauzon is no easy fight.

Absolutely agree with u Wolf. Lauzon is very good and can cause some problems if Guillard isnt careful and focused.

Melvin would beat Joe's ass but I don't mind the fight

Joe poses problems for the first round, then when he starts gassing Melvin eats him alive.

Maynard v Edgar (possible... outside shot I'd guess)
Sonne n v Stann (#1 contender fight)
Maia vs TBA (another top 10 MW)
Guillard v Jlo (solid LW fight w/ Guillard nearing a title shot)

They aren't going to put 2 title fights on the same card especially with all the injuries lately. Sonnen-Stann will be the co-main event.

Also I agree with Bobbitt in that Guillard will destroy him.

Melvin could or J-Lau could destroy Melvin. These guys can both gas and can both finish shit out quick.

last time Melvin called somebody out...he and Jeremy Stephens bored us to sleep.

It wasn't Jeremy's fault.

Lauzon can't strike with him, but if he gets it down on the ground with Lauzon in control, I think Melvin will have a tough time getting it back to standing

They're going to have to unless they wait until until Dec. 134-138 all have title fights.

1 of those fights will be postponed because of injury.

i mentioned this on another thread but do you guys remember when melvin declined kennys challenge earlier this year cus he said he only wanted to fight title eliminator fights or title challengers and kenny was neither of them. at the time kenny was coming off a loss in a title eliminator to gray yet still in melvins eyes he wasnt top material. instead melvin decided to fight roller and now wants joe. i guess title challengers to him are guys on the lower in of the ladder not the top

The UFC has been booking Melvin against people he should be fighting. Leading up to his loss against Diaz he was one of many guys on the outside looking in of the upper level of the division. Melvin turning the page culminating at the time by him soundly defeating top ten Evan Dunham and declaring he is ready for a title shot only to receive a rebuttal from Florian that, "he doesn't deserve one till he beats me," is rather asinine really considering Florian's next fight was 11 months later in a smaller weight division. Further disregarding the pre and existing nature of the permadeep LW division in Pettis's contender-ship claim, the title fight draw, and new contenders being born in the wake of those previous contenders they defeated (Guida, Siver) in devaluing Guillard seems like a waste of time. He has looked continually better against quality competition at above average frequency for a professional fighter at that level. Anyways, I've yet to hear Melvin call out someone who just lost, when he calls someone out, it is someone who has just won, and done so impressively.

Mel didn't decide to fight Roller. In fact, he openly stated the fight didn't make sense to him and that Roller wasn't in his league

and the reason he's calling for a fight with Lauzon is because he's the highest ranked fighter available, and he REALLY wants to fight on the Houston card

Yeah this card looks great. If Melvin wins he needs a #1 contender match.

Joe is legit. Been saying this for a minute.

Except for the whole thing about looking like a zombie after the first round I would agree.

Still pick Guillard over him every time

I think that charge is over rated based on the one performance which I can remember it in against George. Otherwise I have seen him fight entertaining decisions like a FOTN against Stout and finish three different UFC fights in the second round. He tired that night but I think even in a rematch of that fight I would pick Joe by shit-kicking.

both are overated. both shouldnt be in the top 10. both put on great fights
