According to several well-informed sources in the Russian press, including RIA media agency and “Sport-Express”, a much-awaited cruiserweight showdown between WBO champion and “The Ring” #2 ranked 200lber Marco Huck (30-1, 23 KOs), 25, and undefeated Russian slugger Denis Lebedev (21-0, 16 KOs), 31, is preliminarily set on Dec. 18 in Germany.
Lebedev (WBO #1, IBF #6 and “The Ring” #5) is 8-0, with 8 KOs and has wins over Eliseo Castillo, Enzo Maccarinelli and Alexander Alekseev among others, since an end of his 4-year long layoff in 2008. Huck acquired his belt last August and defended it four times in a row (last three coming by way of stoppage).
“This bout is 99% done at the time of the 26th of October”, said Lebedev’s manager Vladimir Hryunov to “Sport-Express” reporter. “There are no contradictions between our parties so only signatures are to be put. Most probably, everything will be finalized this coming Saturday. This title fight will definitely be held in Germany; the exact venue doesn’t worry us – we recognize it as a great opportunity for Denis to become a world champion”. Later, Hryunov was quoted saying that “Berlin is a possibility”.
Earlier last month Polish television suggested the following roster for the starting round of proposed “Super Six” among cruiserweights: Marco Huck vs. Steve Herelius, Krzysztof Wlodarczyk vs. Yoan Pablo Hernandez and Steve Cunningham vs. Denis Lebedev.
