Donald Cerrone vs. Chris Horodecki slotted for WEC 53 in December

Donald Cerrone will fight at December's WEC 53 event, but it won't be against rival Jamie Varner.

Instead, Cerrone (12-3 MMA, 5-3 WEC) has agreed to fight fellow lightweight contender Chris Horodecki (16-2 MMA, 2-1 WEC) at the WEC's final show of 2010.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed the planned matchup with sources close to the event, who said verbal agreements are in place. MMAWeekly.com first reported it earlier today.

WEC 53 takes place Dec. 16 at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Ariz., and the night's main card airs on Versus.

Cerrone vs. Horodecki could make the broadcast, though WEC officials will not determine the televised lineup until closer to the show.

Cerrone recently rematched former champ and bitter rival Varner and won a unanimous decision. Nearly two years prior, he suffered a technical split-decision defeat to the then-champ after an illegal blow left Varner unable to continue in the fight.

After the redemption, Cerrone and Varner both talked about being about to a rubber match. Instead, Cerrone, who also fell short in a title fight with Benson Henderson back in April, goes for his third win in four fights when he meets Horodecki.

The former IFL star made his promotional debut in December 2009 and suffered a vicious head-kick TKO loss to Anthony Njokuani at WEC 45. Since then, though, the young Canadian has earned a submission win over Danny Downes and a split-decision victory over Ed Ratcliff. He's 4-1 since a December 2007 IFL loss to Ryan Schultz, which was the first of his career.

not a bad fight, both guys are coming off of nice wins, the winner deserves a tittle shot IMO

There usually has to be an up guy and a down guy. This is defiantly one of those situations. We can't always be fortunate enough to see to near equals settle up in the cage. I got Donald finishing this one.

He's still a relative unknown... didnt see much from him last fight, theres still a lot of guys he can take on though

the baptism of Howard!

Cerrone got into a backstage brawl with some guy that was fighting in the main event in a Clovis, NM MMA event. He punched the guy and split his eye causing him to withdraw from the main event. Cerrone was bitter, he is getting sloppy seconds with his girl, the other guy dated her before.
