Guys who are good technical boxers can be successful when the reflexes dull and the athleticism wanes. Fighters who are athletes and not technically sound (Roy was a poster child), are done as soon as the reflexes and athleticism go.

The first Tarver fight was his Alamo. After that last stand it was effectively over. His retirement point should have been after Ruiz. If he walked away then, boxing writers would have debated how great he was(and glossed over his competition level). Instead, he hung around and lost a bunch of fights (in devastating fashion). Now everyone will dissect his entire career.

| That sucks, I hate those stupid copyright infringements that stop people from around the world seeing interviews or highlights.
Basically it was another example of how depressing Roy's become in his old age, talking about wanting to go back to heavyweight or give Clinton Woods a rematch. |

Roy is going to end up a cautionary tale. Captain's simple rules for boxers: 1-fight more often than today's fighters 2-continually work on your craft-in the gym, at home watching fighters, reading about the sport 3-desire to be great, visualize yourself becoming so, then go out there and kick ass 4-don't drink 5-don't smoke 6-hire a good accountant 7-hire a good lawyer (if that is possible) 8-save your money 9-don't buy an Evander Holyfield mansion 10-don't have kids with 12 different women 11-don't show up to press conferences as Captain Hook-it might entertain my 3 year old son when I show him pictures of it, but everyone else thinks you are a dumbass 12-retire a couple of fights too soon

| #2 is a great rule that few boxers today follow, most fighters completely abandon boxing once a fight is finished so they can binge on food, alcohol and women(not that that's a bad thing.) |

| Number 11- I showed my 3 yr old son pictures of Roy as Captain Hook (press conference for his aborted recent fight). He loved it.
Then I showed my wife the pictures and she knew who roy jones was (she has to after years of hearing me babble about boxing), and her response was, "what a dumbass. Has he been punched in the head too much?"
