Mine collapses almost never have any kind positive outcome. They are instead scenes of initial optimism that gradually fades to the reality of a lingering death for those below. What is about to begin happening in Chile is simply astonishing. The apparent calm, discipline and professionalism of the minors and the creativity, dedication, commitment of the rescuers and a healthy dose of luck may well lead to an outcome unprecedented in mining history. It would turn out to be the land-based version of the legendary Squalus rescue led by Swede Momson.

Best thing about this story was a discussion I heard over which miners get to be the first/last ones out of the mine. Apparently one dude down there had his wife and girlfriend find out about each other during this whole thing. The joke among the guys down there is apparently that he wants to be the LAST one out.
