In all seriousness though, the Reds have some of the best young talent in the league. They won't be going anywhere anytime soon

Phillies as of right now which I'm rooting for personally. I'd rather get them early in a 5 game series than a 7 gamer where Halladay could go 3 times theoretically

The phillies will be very tough to beat either way but the reds have a ton of hitting they will just need there pitching to hold up against the Phillies.

Well, Giants arent in yet but i think if San Diego makes it as a wild card and the Giants win the division..it's Giants-Reds, but if the Giants are going to make it they will pretty much have to kill SD as a wild card as well.

I love the Reds lineup, but i don't see their pitching as playoff caliber. I mean, the Giants were all over that staff a few weeks ago...when the Giants drop double figures on you in 3 consecutive games, your pitching is pedestrian at best..even if you get past an erratic offense with championship level pitching like Giants or Padres...the Phillies are going to put you to sleep because they are so complete. They have both.

I really hope the Giants somehow play the Reds if they make it mainly because i want no part of the Phillies...but i guess if the Giants or anybody are going to get to the World Series it's probably going through Philly.

Also, hate to poop in the punchbowl with a grievance but the whole "all division winners are IN" thing has always pissed me off.

I can't help but be miffed that two teams have better records than the Reds and the team least likely to make the playoffs(knock on wood) have an identical record to them. Yet, the Reds are IN and one of two 90 win teams and one 88 win team are not because the Reds play in a poontang division.

I know this may seem petty because if things go right for the Giants then the Reds should finish better than the Padres and it's not like the Reds arent on par record wise but the division leader thing has always been a flaw the hurts the integrity of the playoffs.

It's not about the Reds as it is about the format that haunts all the major postseasons except for NBA(where pretty much everybody makes the playoffs)

Remember the NL West dark ages in the mid 2000's? In 2005, The Padres made the playoffs at 82-80 when three teams in the NL East alone had better records then them but did not make the playoffs. The last place team in the East was only 1 game behind the Padres.

NFL. 2008 the Patriots win 11 games but don't play among the best teams because 8 was enough in the AFC West.

You gotta discriminate. If your division was so bad that you could not dominate them to a better record then the third place team in any other division. You don't belong in the playoffs.

Let me note. I'm not saying the Reds are one of those teams, i just used the fact that they clinched with 88 while two 90 win teams still have work to do as a launching pad for a rant.

I know this will never change, but the whole division winner never made sense to me when the post season is meant to have all the BEST teams from the regular season play eachother. You are pretty much presenting a false front of parity when you pretend all divisions are equal when sometimes certain divisions just need to be ignored. Give them a banner for winning their division and reward the BEST TEAMS.
