A source within the UFC has confirmed to Inside Fights that BJ Penn will likely defend his lightweight title against Diego Sanchez in the main event of UFC 105.

Penn has claimed that he would never fight in the United Kingdom again after earning what he thought was an unacceptable purse for his fight against Joe Stevenson. The internal belief is that the free television show will likely pull in millions of viewers, and that kind of viewer base can help turn Penn and Sanchez into even bigger stars, which will translate into bigger pay per view buyrates for both fighters down the road.

WOW... I'd be shocked to see them throw this on a free card!

manny vs cotto is on the same night so this is no shock to me.

Don't give your hopes up. A more reliable source said Bisping vs Kang is the Main Event so take it for what its worth.

While the now-scrapped Bisping vs. Silva bout was expected to enjoy main event status, the Fighters Only report suggests the new Bisping vs. Kang match will be relegated to co-main event status in favor of a yet-to-be-named "high-profile" matchup

I see. Well MMABAY fails again if this is true. Which is pretty sad considering they sponsor Wolfslair....

Again, I'd be a bit shocked since we haven't seen a free title fight since UFC 75. Maybe we're due since they're making us pay for non-title cards fairly regularly now...

I seriously doubt they will put Penn on a free card. It would be exponentially better than a Bisping main event though.

I told u they have 106 and 107 on back to back weeks so they should give us a free huge 1 like this.

I didnt mean 106 and 107 its 105 and 106 back to back weeks. Now u guys are saying its free so I guess on mmaweekly they are wrong cause it says they are both 45 bucks. Sorry bout the trouble I have been causing about 2 ppvs on back to back weeks now lol.

This fight needs to happen with Bisping in the co-main event.

Yeah they definately need to put Penn vs Sanchez on that night. Anything to counter Mayweather and his obnoxious mouth. If they do, I hope HBO loses a fucking bundle and comes to grips with reality and the reality of modern boxing.

Sanchez has five inches of reach on Penn. Some food for thought. Penn needs to go to the ground.

But can Sanchez use it? Flo was not able to. I now think that Snachez's striking is more dynamic then flo's but that is to an extent hindsight. I also tend to think that Sanchez's strength and aggressiveness relative to flo make the job of utilizing that reach much easier. Still I was proven so wrong on Penn vs Flo, that I have to still give Penn the edge in the standup.

If Penn tries taking this to the ground in any other fashion other then to submit a beaten fighter, it will be the first time he's done so in a long while. I hope it stays standing, it could be classic.

Cap, I hear what you are saying, but I don't really think it matters much whn and if it goes to the ground. Sanchez's ground game is pretty much overrated and let's not fail to note he couldn't put away Guida or Stevenson, so I don't see how he is going to win this fight. I just think it will be an exciting one to watch.
