| Gonna do a series of the Tournament Winners of major organizations. Pride, UFC, Pancrase, Rings, etc. and give detail about the tournaments.
To start the series off.....UFC. duh. heres 1-5
UFC 1 (Open Weight) Winner : Royce Gracie ; Gracie beats the field of in under......9 minutes. Yikes. the little dude beat Art Jimmerson the guy with 1 boxing glove on,Ken Shamrock in impressive fashion, and Gerard Gordeau for the 50 thousand bucks. The show does 80,000 PPV buys. Big Win : In the main fight of the night, Gracie's skill blew Shamrock away, Ken underestimated Gracie and paid for it. Key Point : Gracie BJJ has arrived
UFC 2 (Open Weight) Winner : Royce Gracie ; Gracie deafets Minoki Ichuhura via choke, Jason Delucia via sick armbar, Remco Pardoel, and destroys Patrick Smith for the check again. The biggest UFC tournament ever. 100,000 PPV buys Big Win : I dont really know, guess Im gonna go with Royce breaking Jason Delucias arm mainly beacuse Delucia went on to be a early star in Pancrase. Key Point : John McCarthy arrives and makes a major change to the organization, he stops a beatdown by the hands of Pat Smith he made it known he had to have authority to stop a fight.
UFC 3 : (OE) Steve Jennum ; Who? exactly. Royce Gracie has a war with Kimo and gets the win, throws in the towel vs somersault man Harold Howard, Shamrock breaks his hands pulls out of tournament finals. Howard is in the finals in all of his canadian wifebeater wearing glory, vs the alternate Steve Jennum. THe fresh Jennum wins a pretty disapointing tournament. Big Win : Royce Gracie beats Kimo via armbar after taking a good smack down while lying in guard. Key Point: We almost got to see Ken vs Harold Howard. Fuck that would have been CLASSIC
UFC 4 : (OE) Winner : Royce Gracie ; Gracie beats the oldest man ever to compete in UFC Ron Van Clief THE BLACK DRAGON!!! ya , oh wait, damn, hes gettin choked, the Keith Hackney who had just whacked away Joe Sons balls. but something else had happened, this guy with a porn stache was suplexing guys all over the place. Dan Severn falls into this thing called the triangle and the announcers dont even know what the hell happened. Jim Brown starts yelling dont ever doubt that man again to the announce team. 200,000 PPV buys Big Win :WIthout a doubt ROyce Gracie taking a 15 minute pounding, this fight is classic because when this happened live, only Royce Gracie, his family, and Dan Severn, knew what was happening when that triangle was applied. Key Point : American wrestling has arrived. But oh ya Gracie JJ just beat it too.
UFC 5 : (OE) Winner Dan Severn ; Dan basically plows through Joe Charles, Oleg Taktarov and Dave Beneteau who subbed in during the semi finals. The fact the Severn beat Oleg with devestating cuts from knees to the head was a huge win. Its funny to watch old UFC where Dan is holding the cage kneeing the head, haha the golden days. Even though I am a huge Oleg fan. . Big win: Dan over Oleg Taktarov another All timer pretty much controlled Olegs Sambo. Key Point : This PPV does 260,000 PPV buys in 1995, this number stood as the highest groessing PPV till 2006 for UFC. It was also Royce Gracies last UFC fight for 11 years.
UFC 6 : (OE) Winner : Oleg Taktarov ; without a doubt the most entertaining UFC to date. Tank Abbott runs through the field of John Matua and Paul Varelans, while Oleg beat a tournament favorite in the first round, Dave Beneteau via choke in under 2 minutes. THen choking out Anthony Macias in the fastest submission win in UFC history. THe finals was a 16 minute war of attrition with Oleg sinking in a RNC while both were exhausted. Big Win : Oleg proves you need a little more than some gloves and a brawling style to win the tournament. Key Point : Tank Abbott debuts and so do modern MMA gloves. He is the only to wear them in the tournament.
UFC 7 : (OE) Winner : Marco Ruas ; Ruas was a well known brazilian fighter nicknamed King of the Streets. He ran through the bracket beating Larry Cureton by heel hook, Remco Pardoel via armbar, and in the finals he used leg kicks too chop down the massive Paul Varelans and win via TKO. Big Win : Im going to go with the finale, Varelans had fought a combined 2 minutes and 19 seconds before entering the finale. Ruas had fought an exact 16 minutes in his 2 fights. Their fight would go over 13 minutes. Ruas becomes the first to win the tournament by using a different finishing technique in each fight. Key Point : This is the first and last UFC event ever held in New York.
UFC 8 : (OE) Winner : Don Frye ; Don Frye, the fireman from Arizona with a Dan Severn mustache, thats how I will remember him, ran through the field. Won his first fight in 10 seconds, then beat down replacement Sam Adkins, Gary Goodridge killed Paul Herrera with the elbows of death and then beat tough Jerry Bohlander to earn his spot in the finals. Sadly the finale loked like a sure fire barn burner, instead it turned into Frye mounting Goodridge and Goodridge tapping due to position. Big Win : Sorry guys the big win of this tournament has got to be 190 pound Jerry Bohlander choking out 330 pound Scott Ferrozzo. Key Point : First and only UFC in Puerto Rico, many wonder why, Iole said : Even though the crowd was loud and enthusiastic, to this day, there has never been another UFC event in Puerto Rico I know why, us americans got beer thrown on us and spit on for the event, and Puerto Rican officials tried to stop the show at the last minute.
UFC 10 : (OE) Winner : Mark Coleman ; Mark Coleman ran through a pretty deep field, beating Martin Horenstein, then making Gary Goodridge tap due to position again, and in the finals, meting up with Don Frye in a classic fight. It went 11 minutes and both traded punches but COleman grounded and pounded out the victory Big Win : Coleman over Frye without a doubt Key Point : Wrestling was about to become a HUGE component of the game.
UFC 11 : (OE) Winner : Mark Coleman, Mark submits Julian Sanchez and Brian Johnston in under 3 minutes, Jerry Bohlander had a pretty big upset win over Fabio Gurgel, he broke his hand and had to drop out against Tank Abbott in the semi's, Ferrozzo steps in and has a war with Tank Abbott and wins, then drops out of the tournament. The only other substitute broke his hand early in the night. MARK COLEMAN WINS VIA DEFAULT. Big Win : Tie; Scott Ferrozzo over Tank Abbott in a good barn burner. Jerry Bohlander beats Fabio Gurgel in the P4P best fight of the night. Key Point : The days of large Open Weight tournaments are coming to an end.
UFC 12 : Heavy Weight Winner : Vitor Belfort, ran through Tra Telligman and Scott Ferrozzo, was supposed to fight Mark Coleman, never happened. Under 200 Pounds Winner : Jerry Bohlander' beat the field of Nick Reinzo and Rainy Ramirez in under 2 minutes. Big Win : Dan Severn finally defends his Superfight Title against the 2 time tournament winner and the modern Heavyweight division is born in a fight that lasted about 2 minutes. Key Point : UFC 12 was supposed to be in NY, last minute senate votes 133-1 to ban NHB the show moves location day before fight. not the first and isnt the last problemcoming for the promotion.

| WOlfy Ken was 3-1 in UFC tournaments in this period
why?
UFC 1 he goes 1-1 UFC 2 he is gone, busy winning this thing called King of Pancrase title UFC 3 goes 2-0 pulls out with broken hand in a sure fire final he would have won with 2 hands UFC 4 couldnt compete due to injury UFC 5 fighting this guy Royce Gracie in main event UFC 6 defeating this guy Dan Severn in main event UFC 7 drawing Oleg Taktarov in main event UFC 8 beating Kimo in main event UFC 9 losing to Dan Severn in main event UFC 10 out
so in that stretch he is 5-2-2 in the UFC with a win over Royce and Oleg if judges are there, and winning against Dan Severn if competent judges are there

| Bird, do you think the super fights in those days would've been better with the current rules and rounds or did you prefer the rules of those days. Ken would've easily won that Royce fight if it were by today's rules. |

| what i personally wish was they fought they way they did back then, 30 or 36 straight minutes, but had 3 judges judge who won the fight overall
they did at UFC 9 but the judges were hometowners so kinda unfair IMO

When you're here don't sink to their level bird. Well then again you've always been easier than a bake oven.
