Marble, why do you hate Ronald Winky Wright?

I've gathered bits and pieces here and there, but why do you hate the guy? You're pretty intense about it.

Are there any other fighters that people really hate? Why?

I have ZERO good reasons for my unabashed loathing for all things Mr. Ronald Wright. He's never done anything to me. But here is a partial list of my bad reasons (in no order)

1. His record is REALLY misunderstood. EVERY SINGLE ONE of his notable wins were over a guy who was by then a part-time fighter and/or well over his best fighting weight. Bronko McCart is his best win.
2. Styilistically he is an abomination. He's the Arthur Abraham "I'm gonna let you hit me for a while" defender without the athleticism or combination punches comiong back.
3. Winky? Are you kidding me? WINKY?
4. His infrequent fighting and thinking he deserves big paydays is a stellar example of a major issue facing the sport today. He has fought 14 tgimes in the last decade.
5. Other indescribable reasons that make my skin crawl.

My explanation of Marble's number 1 reason (which I wholly agree with as I have thought for a long time that Wright is overrated).

Alot of credit for beating Mosley. Mosley at 135-amazing. Mosley at 147-pretty darn good. Mosley at 154-so so.

Trinidad-147 and 154-amazing. 160 rather so so. Throw in the fact that it was 2005 and Trinidad was just chasing paydays.

Mayorga-best weight 147. Also, a crude brawler who has proven rather ineffective above 147.

Quartey-best weight 147. Old by the time they faced and well above Quartey's best weight.

Mayorga, Dew?

Long week. Brain is a little fried.

He didn't face Mayorga. It only seems like Mayorga ended up the sacrifical lamb for all of the big names of this past generation.

That's alright. I read the post, kept perusing threads, and then it kicked in like five minutes later.

Yeah, the countries where people work less hours have it good. 5 long days of work and I'm lucky if I can carry a conversation with my 3 year old by Friday night.

Even though for some reason my wife is a fan of Mr. Wright, when we went to the Quartey fight, she asked me..."why is he fighting him?" I had no answer.

It's a great case. I'm a big fan of your unabashed hate.

Winky's always been funny to me. He reminds me of the kid who plays video games who figures out one glitch and wins hitting the same button over and over again. Then he swears he's the best ever when he wins, and he shuts off the game if he thinks he's going to lose and tells on you to his mom. I'd hate it if I fought him, but watching him frustrate people usually entertains me (I'm weird).

its alright. we all have someone that we hate for some reason or another. i hate pacquiao for certain reasons. its not that i hate him as a person but just as a fighter. he "beat" certain fighters that i liked and i dont like him. i havent liked him for years then he got really popular so now it looks like i just hate him because its the rebellious thing to do but i really have never liked him.

The better question is:

Why don't all boxing fans hate Ronald Wright?

He is all that is wrong with the sport: 1-inactive, 2-overvalues his services, 3-best wins against guys who are above best weight or old (tailor made), 4-he calls himself Winky, 5-he's sullen, 6-his fights have less entertainment value than every fight that was on the Magnificient Seven card (UK card this afternoon).

He was inactive but I absolutely loved watching Winky fight. I was fascinated. Not to mention back in betting days there was never a fight where I didn't feel confident going in if I had money on Wright
