The UFC Signs MFC Lightweight Champ Antonio McKee Empty
PostSubject: The UFC Signs MFC Lightweight Champ Antonio McKee   The UFC Signs MFC Lightweight Champ Antonio McKee EmptyThu Sep 16, 2010 8:33 am

Antonio McKee (25-3-2) finally made it to the UFC. The always controversial lightweight went on The Savage Dog Show today and announced that he has a 4-fight contract with the UFC.

McKee has pretty much dominated majority of his bouts, but for all his talents, he has always been heavily criticized for his conservative fighting style. The skilled and vocal fighter hasn't lost a bout in 15 fights, spanning over seven years, yet he hasn't drawn much interest from the big leagues. Our own Kid Nate recently talked about it:

Whatever is the cause of McKee being frozen out of major MMA promotions like the UFC, Strikeforce, DREAM, WVR's Sengoku and Bellator, it's the fans who suffer. His ground and pound approach may be dull, but when you consider the current top two UFC fighters are Frankie "Dance and Dodge" Edgar and Gray Maynard, the king of the uneventful decision, it's hard to say McKee should be kept out of the UFC.

If we truly believe MMA is a sport, it's long past time to see Antonio McKee get his chance against the top lightweights in the sport. And while it may be premature to demand McKee get an immediate title shot in any of the bigs, I'd be more than happy to see him against B.J. Penn, K.J. Noons, Kenny Florian, Clay Guida or Sean Sherk.

Eighteen of McKee's wins have come by decision, but the MFC lightweight champ has picked up the pace and finished his last two bouts, sparking interest from the UFC brass. He recently defeated Luciano Azevedo in the first round of a "finish-or-retire" type of match, and with that beautiful (or gross--depending on how you look at things) TKO stoppage, the 40-year-old not only gets to fight another day, but he gets to do it in the big show.

Depends on who he fights. He's a light weight Vlad Matyushenko. If he gets a fight against one of these losers eliminated in the first few weeks of the show, then ya he'll get a chance to win, but if he fights one of these bucks, see ya later.

He will do well, based on the match-up. Silva really is the best and he tries very hard to create equitable match-up's.

And left his opponent gushing blood in the process.
