Holyfield!? You're kidding, right? Between fathering a whole football team and beating his wives for not giving enough to their church, he managed to find the time to shoot 'roids and pump himself full of HGH in an egotistical attempt to extend his career. Nothing but class there.

| How are people defining classy?
I've seen way too many names get thrown out seemingly on the basis of "they seem like good guys when they are on tv and their dirty laundry never aired".
Class is about style. It's elegance and coolness.
Real class is about substance. It's about genuinely being an admirable person.
Some things I will never consider classy: cheating (in your personal or professional life), lying, excessive greed or addiction. Unless these things are somehow done for a greater good, they're pretty big strikes against class. You can be a good sport and a humble guy and not be classy.
I need some clarification on why some of these guys are "classy" because some I just don't see it and others I assume they might have been, but I don't know enough about them. |

I hope SOMEONE is teaching that guy English. A million dollar smile, otherworldly athleticism, a beautiful family and from the translations he seems like a decent guy. If he learns the language he could be a mega-star. I think even if he never speaks english he could be a huge star. |

| How do you guys feel about Max Schmeling? He was before my time. The Nazis tried to paint him as an "Aryan superman." Schmeling never joined the Nazis and resisted pressure to fire his Jewish manager, but I don't think he outright rejected the attention the party gave. He hid and helped Jews during Kristalnacht, and also supported Joe Louis and apparently paid for his funeral. | |

My own view is in that time and place Schmeling did just about everything one could reasonably ask. He wasn't heroic like Dietrich Bonhoffer or Claus von Stauffenberg, but he acted reasonably in my view. There are several good books available on Louis and Schmeling that let you make up your own mind.

I agree its the one that shocked me the most. I heard he was shot and I said no way. It was odd that a guy like him died that way. |

| I can't agree on Oscar for some reason...not that he's done anything glaring but I just think that he has more skeletons in his closet than most. True gentlemen that exuded class... Kostya Tszyu Vernon Forrest (had the opportunity to sit & talk with him once...cool dude) Schmeling (I believe I read that he helped Louis out with money) Marciano Sean O'Grady Cotto
I gotta leave Mosley off the list though...he knew what he was using.

| your right panther not only did Schmeling help Louis with money HE PAID FOR LOUIS' FUNERAL
that should seal the deal as far as being a great person
when Louis met him several times after their fight he had nothing but happiness for seeing Schmeling and being around him Schmeling saw him at a benefit organized by Sinatra for Louis and Schmeling noted (in a book I read) that Louis was in real bad condition (in a wheel chair and pretty much out of it) but Max went up to Louis to say hi and hug him and Louis goes "Schmeling!" pretty amazing
Schmeling lived to be 99
