THE BEST EVER-THE LETTER "R"

I'm not sure what there is to say here.

The only thing I'll say is the more I study Robinson, the more I become convinced that as great as he is generally thought to be? He's greater than that. I'm not so sure the gap between Ray and whomever you think of as #2 isn't as great as the gap between that guy and whomever you think is #10.

The one thing I will point out is that I think lots of folks misunderstand one thing about Robinson. They think of him as a smooth, slick, supremely gifted boxer. That is true of course. But he was also one of the devastating punchers the sport has ever seen. The 103 KO's is amazing given who he fought and yet Robinson, in his welterweight days, routinely agreed in tune up fights to "carry" the hometown fighter so they weren't embarassed and the promoter and fans got a good show.

The honorable mentions are the ATG three division champion Barney Ross, HOFer LHW champion Slappie Maxie Rosenbloom, HOF middleweight Tommy Ryan, the great Cuban HOFer Luis Manuel Rodriguez and very fine lightweight JL Ramirez.

I'da put lightweight champion Mando Ramos, featherweight HOFer Sugar Ramos and 115 Gilberto Roman over Ramirez.

I hate to make this analogy, but I'm really happy an easy letter (R) came up that I could finally make a fast decision on in the morning. Asking boxing fans, who's the best fighter ever in the category of the letter "R" is like asking Christians, "Okay, now who's the most powerful being in all the universe under the letter "G?"

haha. ruiz should have at least been mentioned. he gave us boxing fans tons of entertainment for many years
