Wasn't Marquez his mandatory for the longest?

JMM was ranked #8 in 2000 and #7 in 2001. He broke into the top five in 2002 after Hamed was done.

I have NO idea what the WBO Mandatory was and I just don't care what those alphabet thugs say Smile

Marquez would have been HUGE for him.

Would have been a great fight. Marquez was a long way from becoming JMM in those years. He'd looked awful against Freddie Norwood (didn't everyone). The Pricne would have had a real shot in that fight. Now if we take the Marquez of say 2006? THAT guy runs Hamed's head into a turnbuckle!

The Prince was definitely an entertainer inside the ropes! His punch power was phenomenal for a featherweight, and his erratic style carried vulnerabilities and there's nothing more exciting than watching a fighter with vulnerabilities in an all out war of fists. The Prince's ego got in his way too much, he stopped listening to the people around him who knew best and wanted to do everything his way. From what other people say of The Prince, he wasn't a fun guy to be around and the humbling that he received at the hands of Marco Antonio Barrera bought that all to an end, all of a sudden he wasn't invincible. Hamed fought good opposition and didn't sit about in England fighting bums for big paychecks, he went to the USA early and started KOing the best the division had. Boing needs another Naseem Hamed to get the casual viewers back, we have got not one fighter in the sport with an ounce of charisma

There is an ESPN documentary out there about Hamed that's very fascinating.
