| Subject: GIL TURNER A REAL FIGHTERS RESUME Tue Aug 24, 2010 11:14 am | |
| marble asked a question saying in boxing how did we get to this point..i agree.how did we..lets hear excuses from 1 to 956..fighters make lots of money now.they dont need to fight..yep tyson hollifield and the near future floyd may join them as broke.folks say mosley is a lock for the hall.. i say why.who did he realy fight..today they manipulate there weight and divisions are 3 to 4 pounds apart and we think its a big deal to fight in 4 weight classes..its not.ill start a little controversy.it should not be one but it is.mosley does not get my vote for the hall..im one that feels that honor belongs to the very best not mearly good fighters...shane is mearly a good fighter..ive seen dozens as good or better.nope make that hundreds.... gil turner ive seen fight over 20 times.great puncher counterpuncher boxer tech extremly sound..who is he huh..his record 57-19-2 36 kos and was stoped 4 times.in his last 2 years at the end of his great career he was fighting often against the best and still was very competitive...it was a great era when welters fought middles asa well as to welters.0.noo phoney 154 lb class nor any BS from fans hes tooo big..weigh in the day of the fight..noo welter coming in at 162 like today.please..who did he beat..hall of fame champs beau jack twice ike williams via ko gene fullmer other champs like virgil akins johnny saxton..he also beat tough top fighters like del flanagan twice yamma bahama al andrews piere langlois johnny bernardo ramon fuentes don williams bobby dykes and fusari and tough joe miceli 3 times.. who beat him and several were tough close fights.del flanagan rallph dupas hart vince martinez issac logart joey giambra yama bahama j saxton gene fullmer twice basilio al andrews rocxky castelanni joey giambra bobby dykes kid gaviln... and folks think the welter divisions loaded today..think again....turner was the typical fighter in my teen years..want a resume..look at this guy or any guy on this list...all of them.. is he hall worthy..nope not by my standards.a good verey good fighter.yep...id vote for gil first over a mosley..sorry folks..mosley contrary to todays fans thinking is not special at all..lets water down the hall some more with verey good fighters that are not special...but give me gil over shane..sorry. | |

| Just one of those fine, tough Philly boys wasn't he? He beat HOFers what 4-5 times and faced them over a dozen times? And Turner could punch. Isn't he the guy who knocked Fulmer out of the ring?
I just looked over at boxrec and in a 15 month period he faced Miceli, Fulmer three times, Basilio, Ike Loggart, Johnny Saxton, Bahama and Giambra.
That's a world class fighter every six weeks. Sheesh! | |

| I saw Gil Turner fight Kid Gavilan on Classic Sports. Good fight. Gil's speed is what impressed me. I was convinced that if he put more movement behind the speed, he would've been more effective against the Kid. | |
