BJ wants Diego sooner than later

BJ will beat Diego and as much as I dont think the outcome will change give him GSP again. Hell I will be rooting for BJ against him.

If BJ gets past Diego he still has other fish to fry at LW... And I think he knows that. His whole pre-101 tape is filled with quotes about him needing to be at LW.

I do like the fact that he isn't going classic BJ and dragging it out for months on end though. This is great news!

I dont think there is as much comp for BJ as u seem to think but he does need to stay at LW for alittle while. Its to fresh in peoples mind that BJ got crushed by GSP.

I think Maynard is a legit threat to BJ. Edgar probably isn't but he deserves a shot none the less.

Just because he is pretty big for a LW, he is probably the strongest LW in the UFC and he is a very good wrestler. That seems to be the best combo to beat BJ. Hold him down with your strength and wrestling and wear him down and beat on him. Not saying Maynard can do that he just has the tools that give BJ problems.

Maynard may have the best shot at beating him, but I don't know if he can avoid the sub for the 5 rounds needed to win. At this point, I'd probably put Sanchez at #1 and Maynard #2 with both being good sized underdogs to BJ.

I agree that after Diego, Maynard is the biggest threat. Some see Maynard as being a bigger threat than Diego. Edgar should get a shot after them should he not get beaten. After that, the UFC will have to think of really pursuing some of the Japanese talent unless BJ hangs them up.

Yeah I just think GSP made it look so much easier to beat BJ then it really is. GSP took BJ down at will but he was a 170 pound fighter and Maynard isnt. But I guess ur right he does have the tools to give him problems.

Smart decision by BJ keep active and in shape.

Diego has a good a shot as anyone else in the division with his evolving striking game, but if things go south on BJ standing, which truthfully is unlikely, I think BJ's flexibility and more versitle ground game, coupled with his top notch wrestling and strength as it relates to the division, give him a decided edge on the ground. Furthermore, BJ is in ridiculous shape, has great cardio, and looks more solid physically than ever. He isn't weakened by a cut like Sanchez admitted he was in his last performance. Sanchez may be sacrificing too much by cutting this much, and since BJ has never gassed at LW significantly and went into the fourth round stronger than Florian and still very fresh, I know I can't give Diego a significant cardio or strength edge.

How is Diego going to top Penn? Is Diego good and strong enough to work GSP's game plan? We know a guy like Florian certainly isn't. At LW is it even the right game plan?

What else can he do? Work Jits defense and try to out strike him? Penn has been striking at a high level for a long time.

What is Diego going to do better than BJ Penn?

BJ Penn # 1 lightweight in the world ever.

Short of a flash KO a la Riggs, Diego can only hope to grind things out as long as possible and make the best fight possible... If this thing goes to the ground, BJ will do just what he did to Kenny. Diego's odds of that flash KO... 1 in 10...

I am not underestimating Sanchez as much as separating BJ from everyone else. I think Sanchez would be close to even if not outright favored against pretty much anyone else at LW or below. BJ

Im with Wolf Diego gets subbed in the third. BJ is just way to good at that weight and he will prove it when the fight happens.

I have this as a very entertaining stand up battle. In typical BJ fashion he probably chokes out a softened up diego, 3rd or 4th round something like that.

Im picking BJ. Im somewhat over my negative outlook on him that was due to his half ass training vs GSP. And though I picked Flo, I think Flo's performance was as shitty as Penn's was good, so Im not as elated as some are about Penn. Now Penn clearly reestablished himself as the best at 155, but Diego is a big 155 with an dynamic offensive attack, I think that, at the very least, he makes this a very entertaining fight(very much unlike what flo was able-trying to do).
