HBO is interested in Yuriorkis Gamboa vs Celestino Caballero

In a recent interview, promoter Lou DiBella stated that HBO is very interested in a fight between WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa and rival Celestino Caballero. The date of September 11, Gamboa will make his return to Las Vegas to face IBF champion Orlando Salido in a unification encounter that HBO will televise. Caballero is rumored to take part in a tripleheader event on October 2.

DiBella says Caballero needs to take a fight before a potenial match with Gamboa. Caballero has not fought since an April decision win against Daud Yordan.

"HBO wants the fight and it could happen later this year or in early 2011. The truth is that he (Caballero) has to have a fight before a possible fight with Gamboa," said DiBella to PA Digital. "After Gamboa fights with Salido, look for the fight against Caballero."

This is unexpected. I figured they would want to go Juanma. How much building does that fight still need?

My guess is Arum is planning it for June 2011 to coincide with the Puerto Rican parade.

Pelenchin has the capability to pick apart Gamboa, this could throw off Arum's dream match.

That being said, I hope this fight happens.

So is Caballero vs Litzau still moving forward for 10/2?

If this fight happens they should put JuanMa against Chris John on the undercard (or headlining) at MSG. John-JuanMa would be for The Ring title since they're both ranked 1 and 2. Winners fight again at MSG the day before the PR Parade. That's how u build Gamboa-JuanMa, assuming they both win. I'm a genius.

"Bullshit" Bob Arum is going to mess this up for boxing fans.

In the process he is going to do a huge disservice to his fighters.

I sincerely hope I am wrong and can post next June that Arum didn't mess it all up.
