The Muggers Empty
PostSubject: The Muggers   The Muggers EmptySun Aug 15, 2010 11:45 pm

These are the guys that....well.......flat out mugged you.

Sonny Liston - Sonny flat out came out and unleashed hell on you, he didnt care what round it was he was just going to batter you.

Johnny Tapia - I think of Larry Holmes great quote when I watch Johnny Tapia "Its just you and me in the ring, no bullshit, and you cant call the cops."

Ricardo Mayorga - The epiphany of a mugger, this guy just mauled you into a knockout.

Mike Tyson - mugger and a rapist , in the ring as well as out!!!

George Foreman - the prime George just came out and spanked your ass. Looked like a back alley beat down.

Tony Galento - think this is the only style the guy knew.

your adds

Jim Jeffries let you mug him and then mugged you.

Jack Dempsey mugged even muggers like Firpo!

Paul Berlenbach was also a champion wrestler. Great lead in to being a mugger!

Juan Urango is only a decent fighter. But he is a mugger's mugger.

Carmen Basilio might have been the best all-around mugger.

Doesn't Homicide Hank fit into this category?

Beibut Shumenov is an up and coming mugger isn't he?

My only quarrel with your list is Johnny Tapia. Awfully skilled and good at distance to be labelled a mugger. Don't get me wrong, Johnny had educated shoulders and elbows and knew all the tricks, but man he was highly skilled.

Yeah but cluelessness from you I expect Wink

If you believe the following, football, basketball, hockey, tennis etc athletes are better today do to MORE competition, MORE resources being poured into the sports, MORE worldwide attention and better technology? It is impossible to then to argue boxing, which has fewer resources, less attention, not real technological changes and lesser competition in terms of numbers of fighters and additional divisions is better for those same reasons.

I think the other error folks make is they believe ALL knowledge is cumulative. It isn't. We lose expertises all the time as the world changes. Tough to believe we, on the whole, are better horsemen or bowmen or blacksmiths or outdoorsmen or fortran designers or wind sailors or pyramid builders than we were in the past isn't it?

You are correct. But is boxing one of those. That remains to be seen. There are still some old guys out there teaching the young ones how to box.

reason i added Tapia was mainly for how he loved to nail you then talk shit, he jsut seemed like he loved the fact that beating someone up in the ring was legal

He also gave Spinks all that he could handle.I believe he was in his mid-thirties when he fought Holyfield the first time.Hard to believe he packed on 190lbs. on his 5'7" frame.
