Attendance records and gate reciepts were at an all time low.

Nat Fleischer wrote, "I dare venture that 1933 is the worst on record."

Bert Sugar has written, "If boxing had been awake it would have been an insult to the deceased."

5 of the 8 divisions where without a champ and Oh ya Primo Carnera was heavyweight Champion of the world

Is it still the worst year on boxing record? I am going to say no simply because Barney Ross came along.

Any opinions??? What is the worst year on record, 2006 was pretty damn awful if i remember correct.

1933 was the worst year for many businesses. 25% unemployment will do that.

But I don't much care about boxing as a business, I care about it as a sport.

In 1933 top fighters included McLarnin, Ross, Kid Chocolate, Panama Al Brown, Tony Canzoneri, John Henry Lewis and Maxie Rosenbloom.

Now compare those men in 1933 to the top 7 p4p we have now. Ugh.

For a real dog of a year how about 1959? Ingo as heavy champ. Archie is 200 years old and won't fight top light heavies, Sugar Ray is 300 years old and about to be stripped, Joe Brown is 400 years old and lightweight champ. Just awful

But truly the worst years had to be back before the game was legal, pre-1900.
