Sounds like Chael cracked a few ribs. The UFC is going to hit a shitty stretch. Anderson and Shogun on the sidelines until like March, GSP-Kos not until December...etc. Going to be a lot of non-title cards im not as wrapped up in the title stuff as the buy rate shows many are, so I can deal with this no sweat, but as Wolf has pointed out, this prob puts a dent in the UFC pockets.

| Well Sonnen was right when he said Anderson would know he's been in a fight.
March that sucks, it wasn't that long ago Silva just returned from elbow surgery, this calls for Sonnen vs Belfort to be made for an interim title. |

| 6 months isn't long enough for them to make an interim title. This no doubt means that Vitor needs to get back in the cage regardless of whether he's next. That would be way too long of a layoff. A year and a half | |

| It's going to hurt Silva even more since he needs to keep active at 35. |

| They'll either suck some WEC titles into the UFC or they'll do an interm fight for some weight class.
When asked why they aren't doing an interm fight for Shogun, Dana said the reason they do interm fights is if they don't know if the champ will fight again, like Mir's motorcycle accident, Randy's contract dispute and Brock's illness, but this might make them change their tune.
Two titles on the shelf for almost a year is bad news. This may force the UFC to put Aldo on an actual UFC card though, which might be a good thing ultimately.

| I don't really want interim titles but when the champion is injured for a period of time they're needed, plus it helps build up a fight between the champion and the #1 contender. |

| If the UFC starts promoting WEC champions on their cards or brandless cards like Aldo vs Faber more regularly, this might get them to create the 125 pound division that has long been discussed. | |

| There's no way to rationalize this as good, but I don't think it works out to be that bad. March is not 'almost a year' away, it's seven months, and the article says "February or March", February would be six months from now. Cracked ribs hurt like hell but they heal pretty quickly, usually 3-6 weeks, so Feb-March is his expected return to the Octagon, not to training.
He had 4 months from Maia to Sonnen, 8 months from Forrest to Maia, 4 months from Leites to Forrest, 6 months from Cote to Leites. The guy pretty much has averaged 6 months between fights for the last couple years anyway.
118 has Penn vs Frankie 119 Mir vs Nog (questionable main event but finalized long ago) 120 Bisping vs Aki (shitty main event, but UK events often are) 121 Lesnar vs Carwin 122 is in Germany airing via tape delay on Spike, it was never going to have a title fight anyway 123 Machida vs Rampage main event 124 GSP vs Kos That takes us to mid December, so they'll probably get one more card in before the Superbowl card, with both LW and HW titles due to be defended.
I don't think the Anderson Silva injury really changes much. We won't see two titles being defended on the same card for a while, but other than that the schedule was pretty much already set until the time Anderson is due back anyway.

| His doctors told him 10 days before the fight to pull out, his ribs were too injured, sucks that will cause him to be out till March. That seems too long for a cracked rib. Maybe Sonnen cracked several of them. | |
