| Second time this has happened. First was against Hughes. Should he lose status in the division? Should it be taken into consideration he last fought over a year ago? | |

i'll go yeah, if the dude doesn't make weight, he shouldn't be considered to be in the division.

| my "yeah" being towards the "should he lose status?' question, not the "should he be awarded a title shot?" question.
But if he does make weight on the 2nd try, I'd say OK.

| He will he only missed by a half a pound so i wouldnt make a huge deal out of it. If he was 3 or 4 pounds over then I would say his status should be effected, but as big of a fan of his that i am its tough to say he deserves a title shot if he beats Fitch. | |

| He shouldn't be awarded a title shot regardless considering that was his last fight. Coming in over a 1/2 pound when he hasn't fought in a year isn't too big a deal to me. If it ever happens again in his career though he's looking at some serious shit. I'd just force him to move to MW | |

| I think thats the problem Bobbitt he has to kill himself to make WW. He would probably be a small MW but he might not have any choice but to make the move. | |

nah change the diet, change the weight program, lose some of that muscle. Could do that but with this not being the 1st time he has had trouble I think its safe to say it wont be has last either.

Just look at his frame, not ultra tall, but pretty jacked. There s some muscle that he could stand to lose. much better idea then moving up, imo at least.

| I agree it would be a better plan for him cause he would be a very small MW. | |

| Honestly even if he wins I wouldn't give him a title shot unless Koscheck wins the belt. He had a year + layoff after losing every round to the current Champ. It's kind of like the Jon Fitch scenario. We saw what happened last time he fought GSP, it's gonna be a long long while before they match those two up again I think. | |

| If Thiago beats Fitch without controversy I don't see why he shouldn't get a shot, he'll have beaten the #1 contender. The fight with GSP will be irrelevant, it's a title eliminator. |

| Jesus what a bunch of boring fighters in a boring division. WW is the least interesting UFC division. GSP has the personality of a French cardboard box and doesn't finish fights. Jon Fitch has the personality of an American cardboard box and doesn't finish fights. Thiago Alves has the personality of a Brazilian cardboard box and can't make weight.
100% more interested in watching Chris Lytle and Nick Diaz fight.

My question is though how does he lose as bad as he did to GSP and jump right into a title eliminator with a guy who had to string together 5-6 fights after he lost to GSP in similar fashion(getting dominated for five rounds). Yes Fitch is an extremely boring fighter we know that. But Alves shouldn't be able to jump right into a title eliminator after a year long layoff after losing every round against GSP. Not even Lyoto Machida is getting that kind of treatment and he actually defended the belt once successfully(which nobody since Chuck and Rampage before him had done in almost 2 years). I udnerstand that the rankings are looking thin after the top 5 in the division but thats no reason to start giving consecutive title shots now when there are other options coming in and making themselves known. Shields, Serra, Kampmann, hell even Chris Lytle could earn a shot with another win or two.

| I agree with you Ludo but I don't have a problem with Thiago getting another shot if he wins an eliminator, yes it's a bit soon but it's obvious the UFC are banking on Fitch winning.
I would much rather see Jake Shields face GSP next but they need to build that fight up. |
