| These are fighters that arent hall of famers but damn it they were the blue collar fighters, the tough SOBs that made life hard for everyone else around them
Jerry Quarry - tough boxer/puncher who had bad luck of being in the greatest era ever, he was still a tough SOB
Tony Galento - Two Ton is the epitome of a lunch pale fighter, basically brawled and tried to moida ya
George Chuvallo - in the Hall but damn this guy was a tough son of a bitch. Greatest chin ever possibly
Chuck Wepner - a Joe Frazier sparring partner, got battered by Liston but stuck around, the real life Rocky with his 15 round fight with Muhammad Ali
Oscar Bonavena - ok think hes inthe Hall also, but when Nat Fleischer says your the "strongest fighter he ever saw" you made the list. Add in the "Smoke" knockdowns and a late KO from Ali and he possibly beats Ali.
Ray Mercer - the ol' Sarge, threw major monkey wrench in the Tommy Morrisson hype train and fought well against Holyfield in a 96-94 UD for Holy.
Denny Moyer - First WBA Jr Middle champ, had a draw wit hRay Robinson, Robinson said he was one of the toughest men he ever fought.
Nate Campbell - was it just me or did Nate Campbell always just either come up a little to short, or barely squeek by with the W. Either way the man was a tough fighter who could box or stand in the kitchen and bang.
Micky Ward- no explenation needed
Arturo Gatti - ditto ^
Abe Simon - trained by Jack Johnson, hmm how can I sum him up in 5 words? "Big Country Sum ofa Bitch".

| nate needs to come off the list. While he was that type of fighter, the one fight where he put his hands down and got knocked the fuck out, should require him to be excluded from the list for being a complete dumbass. | |

| Ray Mancini
Alfredo Escalera
Dennis Andries
Vito Antuofuermo might be the perfect pick. He hit like a lightweight, moved like a heavyweight and somehow won the middleweight championship.
Colin Jones.

That night Tiger Jones beat SRR a couple of things jumped out. Jones was built like a small Mike Weaver. Damned near bodybuilder muscular. Tough to figure out how he only weighed 160. The second was that he didn't squeak by. He PUMMELLED Ray.

| Clinton Woods developed into being close to that type of fighter.
I feel like I should have a dozen to add, but I'm drawing blank.

| I remember Woods pissing of Roys little rapathon at the Rose Garden
it was hilarious my soon to be step mom came over to watch her first fight that happened to be it, she was like "so do all boxers do this"
we all sadly said "no" (sadly in a bad way not a good way)

As I said, he is a weird one. But he always showed up in shape, he fought EVERYBODY, he always gave a great effort. Now I agree the dancing was more than a little odd for a "lunch pail" guy

| Yea, you may be right- I was a teenager back then and I was dazzled by backflips and showboating. I remember terrific head movement and hand speed which told my young brain that he was a great talent. I could very well be wrong. | |

No your memory is accurate. That's the right guy. He didn't punch hard enough to handle truly top guys, nor did he have a great set of whiskers. I am happy to admit he may well be too flashy to be a lunch pail guy.

| Thanks, your explanation helped illuminate what I think you were originally getting at. I just got in from a Rende vous with an old friend. Pops were consumed. I'm slower than usual on the uptake (if that's possible) | |

| I'll mention Glen Johnson again because he's fighting Tavoris Cloud very soon. I'm with him, win, lose or draw. Lunch pail figthers are probably the rule, not he exception today. If the very top fighters like MW, Klits, Pac and a few others are taken out, there's really not too much a difference between a man with little talent but an amazing will to fight. Long ago, guys like Henry Cooper, Scott Ledoux, Ron Lyle and Ron Stander fit this bill. The good thing about them is that they gave great figthers trouble. I'd say this. If either one of the Klits took on any of the 4 figthers I named (with the excepetion being Ledoux), it would probably be their toughest challenge. I don't know if I'd call Jerry Quarry a lunch pail figther. He was just in the wrong era. | |
