| Mayweather Jr. is only a few years away from "retiring", i'm curious how most of you at Ninjas Place believe he will be remembered after he "retires". If you don't like the choices in my poll, add one of your own. | |

| I don't like your top option because I would select it because he will be remembered as an all-time great, but then you say "one of the best ever." To me that implies top 5 to top 10 status.
So just a disclaimer, I am picking the top option because I consider him an ATG. However, I disagree with the "one of the best ever" comment. There are just too many great fighters in history to say Mayweather is one of the best "ever."
I'd say he's the best of his generation though.

| Most figthers are not remembered. Ali is because his whole life is on film but most are fast to be forgotton. The best thing a boxer can do is get the best out of himself, go as far as he can go, and then retire. Mayweather is wasting his best years but that's his choice. Tragically, the MW's of boxing come back again and again and again because they can't do without the fanfare. Look at Roy Jones and magnify his tragic ending by about 10 and I think you have Mayweather's future. At the moment, he's in "La La Land." However, reality has a very cruel way of introducing itself. | |

| I voted all 3, although he may only get the bottom 2. I'll remember him as the 1st.
For the 3rd one you have to change unpopular to unlikable. If he was unpopular, people wouldn't care about him. |

I don't believe the majority of boxing fans 'care' about Mayweather, but they will watch his fights, if only to see him lose. No one can deny that Mayweather's fights do good PPV numbers, although personally I don't understand why, I wouldn't walk across the street if I was given a free ticket to watch one of this clown's fights.

I don't think the majority of boxing fans 'care' about any professional fighter. I don't exactly see people lining up to help out the many broke and punch drunk fighters of the past. That's why I tend to dismiss people who say "he should be a warrior, go out on his shield, etc." You're not the one getting hit in the face, and you're not going to be the one living with the physical and mental damage afterward. I have never considered proving you're tough, a warrior, whatever, by taking punches to be anything less than idiotic. The whole idea of fans 'caring' about a sports athlete is laughable. I have a saying that I use a lot and it is very true with people in general: "It's his/her world, we're just in it." If it doesn't affect their world, they don't care. In that respect, I understand where some of the fighters come from: do what is best for you and your family. The fans really don't care, and never will.

| good question i think..the choices are not complete i guess..GOAT nooooo way.not in 10 million years.unless you are a totaly blind gung hole floyd fan whos knowledge of boxing history extends a whole 3 weeks..one of the greatest of all time..depends on what you mean by that..if its one of the top 100 fighters ever id say hes a strong canidate thus far for that..or be forgotten...personaly its perhaps a combination of the last 2..how many all time greats greater then floyd are forgotten..several..when his name is mentioned 25 years from now he will be remembered as a fighter who didnt fight..a fighter who made a circus out of the biggest fight in his era and a person who was sued by walt disney productions for copy right infridgements on there donald duck character.. in that time frame there will be other great fighters to appear that will capture the approval of the boxing community and the general public combined.something that floyd has not accomplished..his impact on boxing will not be that of a dempsey a louis robinson a marciano or a ali...or a armstrong ..he will be just another legit HOF fighter who will vagely be remembered i feel and one that true boxing historians will not be generous to with respect or praise.thats my imput and thoughts...unlike ring if i was offered a free ticket to his fight going across the street to see id take it..i wouldnt pay to see him..not even 50 dollars.. | |

You a damn lie. Agreed. I call shananigans! Ring would go to the fight, and talk shit to Floyd the whole time.

| His Super Featherweight and Lightweight days put him in the top 50 greatest fighters. |

Floyd's lightweight career is overrated by many. He was the lineal champ but didnt really wreck the division. He only fought there 4 times.

| About a year ago, Dougie Fisher, of Ring, said in his mailbag, the same thing that someone said in this thread, Floyd is resembling Roy Jones's prime a bit. No, he wasn't saying that Floyd is fighting cabdrivers and policemen. He was saying Roy wasted his prime and then when it was too late he decided to push himself (and now can't walk away). Floyd has been wasting his talents by not taking on all the challenges he can. Hopefully, he doesnt' decide to challenge himself when it is too late, like Roy. | |

| He will be a side note in boxing history. People will remember the guys who went after greatness inside the ring not saying how great they are outside of it. |
