even that, spider has been beaten and submitted b4, he has a couple recent ho hum performances of late, I don't think that would approach the Werdum submission.

I hope Spider loses. 2010 would have then seen 4-5 of the unbeatable champions lose. Actually I don't mind GSP either but if Kos beat him, cool. I hope that all happens. 5-5.

It is an instant candidate due the the ramifications on MMA itself. Can't count out Cro Cops either for reasons of sheer wtf.

Sub of the year could be stolen away in a heartbeat. The sub was very nice but nothing flashy about it.

We are only halfway through the year and though I think it is a candidate, it still isn't my favorite of the year so far. I would have to go with the armbar applied by Dunham on Escudero, that was a thing of fucking beauty, but even it might lose out and neither one will beat last years winner.

Ya but those guys aren't even top ten in their divisions(though Dunham might be now) while Fedor and Werdum represent the highest skill levels in the sport.

Top ten or not that armbar was great. If I remember correctly that standing triangle choke last year was done by a guy not in the top ten of his division either. Where they rank should have little or no effect on the validity for Sub of the year Candidacy. A great sub is a great sub.

Does rank really matter? A mean isn't a slick/sweet sub just as good no matter who does it? I don't think the upset factor should factor in this.

typically yes, but when the sub, which in itself was pretty sweet, puts an L on the record of the undefeated Fedor, it gets a MAJOR bump.

The highest level grappler in HW MMA history sub'd the second highest level grappler in HW MMA history, in 69 seconds. Sub of the year. Don't care how many goofy undercard WEC flying armbars or inverted fringe contender Bellator triangles we see.
