| BoxingScene.com was advised by promoter Gary Shaw that featherweight contender Rafael Marquez will return on September 18 on Showtime. The target opponent being discussed is WBO champion Juan Manuel Lopez, who defends his title on July 10 against Bernabe Concepcion in Puerto Rico. Marquez is co-promoted by Zanfer's Fernando Beltran, who shares numbers fighters with Lopez's promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank. Both Shaw and Beltran believe a deal can get done for a fight with Lopez. Marquez-Juanma is being targeted for the same Showtime televised date as the Super Six clash between Arthur Abraham and Carl Froch. If the two fights are made for the same date, I would expect Showtime to put together a split-feed show with a delayed edition of Froch-Abraham, which all depends on the country and time difference of where Froch-Abraham will land. http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=28467 |

| i think that marquez is going to easily take out lopez. i just see marquez' experience winning him the fight. it might be competitive for a few rounds but marquez will start landing more and TKO him in the mid-late rounds | |

| I say let them go at it and hopefully Marquez takes him to school. I'd love to see that happen but well Lopez will probably win. | |

| I think it's a bad match up for Rafael, he'd be lucky to last five rounds. |

He gets hit too much and that spells disaster against a puncher like Lopez.

| How will they do a split feed if Froch Abraham is in Montreal?
Juan Ma will retire Marquez.

| If we can get Caballero v. Rojas, we're set for solid fights in the division. I don't think Rafa has it in him to deal with Juanma. Would love to see it though. |

| im surprised how many people think that juanma will beat marquez. marquez has shown me that he still has a couple of fights left in him. lopez hits hard but its not like rafa hasnt been hit by some punchers during his career. lopez gets hit a lot himself and i dont see him dealing with that power very well. marquez loves wars. im not sure how much lopez loves them basing that opinion off of the mtagawa fight. lopez isnt going to out box him and i dont think that he can out slug him either. i just cant see lopez winning unless rafa gets old overnight. | |

| Lopez is the bigger fighter. Lopez is the much younger fighter. We really have no clue what Marquez has left at this point. Winning a comeback fight and then beating the version of Vazquez he beat, doesn't tell me how he'll look against Lopez. | |

| but marquez didnt look slow or anything. im not saying that he is at all where he was in his prime but he still looked like he could fight. plus, lopez came up in weight too. he didnt start at feather. | |

| how can you gauge a fighter's speed against a fighter that was shot. Vazquez was life and death in a tune-up fight prior to fighting Marquez for the 4th time and he was slower than slow. | |

| what has marquez done in his last 2 fights that gives you any indication that he is a shot fighter? he hasnt shown me that he cant fight anymore. maybe the lopez fight would show it but his past 2 fights hasnt shown me that he is done. | |
