| There's a new Sheriff in town, and it's called Budo Fights... Watch your ass UFC!!! Okay, not really. Locally here we have had a show called Desert Brawl for about a decade. They've had some decent fighters fight for this D level promotion (Most notably Ed Herman, failed UFCer Josh Haynes and John Gunderson from Lion's Den who will be fighting in his 2nd and likely last UFC fight next Saturday at the Ultimate Finale). They are still running, but a new promotion is starting a local turf war... Budo Fights Genesis kicks off tomorrow night with Ed Herman and Dave Jansen helping out as "celebrity" faces. They are dropping the cage in the middle of an indoor tennis arena, gathering bleachers for fight fans and letting six D level pro's and a large group of amateurs swing for the fences. They've had some issues getting this first card together, going as far as hitting a few message boards looking for guys to fight. But, the card is set and the event is scheduled to go. In the past I've never jumped on the Desert Brawl bandwagon as far as helping with promotion or even sponsorship since I know the management was content not attempting to seriously grow the product. If these guys can put on a good show and are serious about moving forward, I may get involved in the future... I love me some local low level fights as the fights are often better than high level stuff since you go in with little expectation. I'll gladly miss 115 to catch this... (DVR works just fine). http://budofights.com/default.aspx | |
