| Almedia is signed for the fight. Is this a fight Hughes wants though? | |

He doesn't have many fights left in him. Why take up one of those with Almedia?

Are you kidding?... If Hughes has his way, his next fight will be against a third Gracie or a rematch with Trigg or Hallman...

I'm sure the student does want to avenge the master but IMO there are better fights out there for both men.

| I have always liked Matt despite his character flaws... But his time is past and I have a sick side of me that enjoys the GSP or Alves moments. This is why I disagree about fighters picking and choosing much lesser talents that only aid in making themselves still feel relevant. I see Almeida as having the potential to feed my sick lust of seeing a past his prime fighter laying in the middle of the octagon unconscious...

| Being a fan, I would be happy as hell. I've pretty much written him off due to his performances since his win over BJ and his choices for opponents during that time. I get Serra somewhat, but no way he should have been fighting Lytle and Renzo. I would love for him to prove me wrong... Just don't think it would happen in this fight. | |

So this is a win-win fight for you? Either you get your jollys from seeing the over hill Hughes sleeping in the cage or you get to see the old man pull off a legit win.

| Yeah... I suppose. Doesn't hurt that Almeida is a fighter I've always liked as well and think he's a legit threat at 170. If he goes down to a legend, he can rebound. But chances are, he'll help retire a legend and position himself as a legit challenger in the very near future. I just hope Hughes doesn't hang around and finish his career in the same manner that Chuck has. | |

| I give Hughes a decent shot in this fight guys. Even with his aging, he still has tremendous takedowns and ground control.
He has the ability to lay and pray for the entire fight to a decision.
That being said, I will hold off on making my pick until further notice.

| Almeida would love for this to turn into a grappling match. That plays right into his strengths. | |

| I think some of you forget that Hughes has some good jiu jitsu offense and defense as well.
I dont think he will submit him...but i'd go as far as saying he may not get submitted either...this will be a tough fight for both men.

As if Ricardo fucking Almedia could submit Matt Hughes. I know Almedia has nice pink lips, but could you care to take your toungue out of Almeidas asscrack/taint area and stick it back in your mouth oggy? Thanks pal. When was the last time someone outside of GSP sub'd Hughes? Penn in 05 and Hallman in 2000. Almedia is good on the ground sure, but he ain't subbin no fuckin Matt Hughes. Hughes' wrestling flat out gives him a better ground game. The UFC has to balance giving Matt Hughes fights he'd actually take with putting together exciting match ups. Unfortunately Hughes refuses to fight any MMA fighter with a legitimate 2010 skillset, leading to a steady diet of these oppressive match ups where Hughes can just defend submissions and throw short elbows while switching between full and half guard for 14 minutes of a 15 minute fight. This fight will be unwatchably boring on the ground as the two will completely stalemate eachother's offense, because neither is particularly explosive or dynamic on the ground anymore(unlike GSP who was able to sub Hughes a few years ago) and both have pure striking that wouldn't carry them to an MFC championship, much less a UFC one. Just give Matt Hughes that fight with Denis Hallman, his undeserved title shot, and let him retire to his farm in Granite City or whereever where he can lift as many bales of hay as his God-fearing body will allow. Hughes by horrific LnP decision.

| Hughes obviously has a legit chance of winning by humping Almeida for 3 rounds but he looks uninspired at this point and on the other hand I'm sure this is a fight Almeida really wants | |

| I can agree with Wolfy on this one. Everyone must have just forgot bout Hughes because he isn't GSP. Standing is probably even and ground game goes to Hughes in MMA because he'll be the one deciding when it goes there and he'll be the one on top dropping elbows. | |

| I am shocked people have Almeida as some kind of favorite. Hughes bashing I can get down with. He is a boring asshole who LnP's and hand picks opponents, but I am not blind enough to discredit where his ground game is. Hughes will rub his elbows and armpits all over Almeida's face for 3 rounds. | |
