| I was just thinking about joe mesi. i remember he was the next big thing. i was never too big on him but he wasnt terrible. what do you think would have happened if he didnt have that brain tumor or whatever it was? i can say that i would rather him be on top than the klits. i think that he would have been champ. i think that he would have beaten wlad because of his punch but vitali would have been harder for him. | |

| he barely got past a blown up Vissily Jirov (that's the fight in which he suffered the brain bleed) The Klits would have probably destroyed him IMO. | |

| I never thought Joe was really anyhting special. My guess? Just another bump in the road for those guys. If Jirov could injure him? Wlad might literally have killed him. | |

| Let's be honest here. Joe was an above-average fighter that got a lot more exposure because of a weak heavyweight division, plus white and well-spoken. | |

| mesi is a great kid..talent wise after the builup a second tier heavyweight..the K brothers would eat him up inside 6..other heavys i think could stop him also..his chin was just ok against competion of a lesser degree.against the better fighters like cyris byrd etc they would hit him often..his punching leverage was poor .fought with no angles etc etc..another case of a father directing a sons career after it got out of his league.that also would of cost him. | |

| i swear that mesi suffered the brain bleeding before the jirov fight. maybe im wrong but i remember thinking that he already had problems before that fight and thats why it was as close as it was. but again, maybe im wrong. | |

| He supposedly was coming back to cruiser. I think he had a tune up fight last year and then nothing. He's in that akward area where he only wants meaningful fights, but there none for him. He must be 37 years old or so.
I'd still like to see him and Toney rematch.

| some people need to realize that they need to stay at one weight. moving up weight isnt for everyone. | |

| I just cannot understand the stigma that the cruiser weight division has. I think it's a fantastic division, yet every cruiser wants to go to heavyweight. Adamek for example does not belong at heavyweight, same for Toney and Jirov, all great fighters. | |

Its all about money. true, but just imagine had Michael Spinks, Evander Holyfield, Michael Moorer, Orlin Norris, Bert Cooper, and later James Toney, Vassily Jirov, Eddie Chambers and Tomas Adamek all campaigned there. The glamour and money would have followed.
