| We all know Joe Louis was perhaps the greatest heavyweight of all time. What many dont know was how active and fastly brought along he was. Joe was a very good amateur fighter and in July of 1934 Louis turned pro. Max Baer was Heavyweight Champion of the world at the time.
By the end of 1934 Joe Louis was 12-0 with 10 KO's. By April of 1935 Joe Louis was 19-0.
In June of 1935 Joe Louis hadn't even been a professional fighter for 1 year when he took on former Heavyweight Champion Primo Carnera. Louis knocked Carnera down 3 times en route to a 6th round KO.
August 1935 Joe Louis knocked out the tough King Levinsky in 1 round.
September of 1935 Joe Louis was facing former Heavyweight Champion Max Baer. Think about this , Joe Louis had been a professional boxer for 14 months. He was facing the man who was champion when he became a pro.
HOW NUTS IS THAT! Baer was knocked out in 4 rounds.
Just think about that. Louis was 22-0, had been active 14 months, and already KO'd 2 Former Heavyweight Champions.
Shows you just how amazing the man really was | |
